I was looking for time table/transport apps on 1300 500 and was wondering what the best one is. does anyone have a particular favourite one?

Yes of course I do.

From that site I gout a list of apps and tried two of them. Tripgo looked nice but I am still figuring out how to do something simple like plan a trip and Arivo Sydney seems only to show me transit stops. Neither seem to offer much in the way of a help page.

TripView is the best if you are wanting to obtain real time information, such as when the next bus/train.ferry is, however the Transport Infoline app (the one provided by TfNSW is the best when it comes to planning ahead.

It works in the same way that the 131 500 website works, namely you can input your starting point (and you can stipulate current location using GPS if you want), end destination, and it will work it all out for you (e.g. "Walk 100 metres to bus stop, catch route 999 bus to location X, walk 30 metres, catch train from platform 1 to location Y, walk 40 metres, catch ferry from wharf 3 to location Z, walk 40 metres, catch bus 998 to destination") - TripView doesn't do that.

The 131500 app also lets youdo a search based on either departure or arrival time, so if you need to be somewhere by a certain time, it will work it out for you.

FWIW, I have both TripView (and I agree, get the paid version) and the Transport InfoLine apps on my phone, they are both worth having.

I agree with Dave, having both of them is probably the most useful combination.

Found my way back to the forums (been a long time), but I would suggest TripView. I use it on my iPhone and it is pretty good. Only disadvantage I would say is that there are times when the "real time" has a meltdown and will show a train running 50+ minutes late when in fact, it was on time (happened to me, and I was on the train). Positives would be that it allows for multiple changes and if you select stops that are on multiple lines or served by multiple bus routes; it will automatically set them to include all in your journey. Still uses the old CityRail map, but I spoke with the designer at the 2013 Bus & Coach Show and he indicated that when the new SydneyTrains/NSWTrainLink maps are released, there should be an update.

I have used the 131500 app and it does take a little bit of time to get use to and to operate, but it is still a good app as you can set it to plan your journey from your current position to a desired location rather than a train station/bus stop, so that would be a good advantage, and you can also set it to plan a journey for a later time or date, which TripView can't do.
