David - great shots and thanks for sharing.

Can anyone confirm if the 81/G/BL samples from Austrains are on display?

They were available for private viewing on the Saturday, not on general display.

Look bloody nice actually.

I heard the private viewing option of the 81's was also available if you asked to see it at the stand at the Epping Exhibition, and I'm a little disappointed that a sample hasn't been available for public viewing at Liverpool. I looked all over the Austrains stand at Liverpool and didn't see even a hint of a sign saying the 81 was around for anyone that wanted to see it. I know we don't exactly have a right to it, but given that it's the last major NSW exhibition before Christmas, I would have thought there'd at least have been a picture on the website or in the AMRM. (Unless it's coming, James McInerney Smile). Perhaps after publicly stating that this model is partly being done to give the finger to a competitor, this level of secrecy is the only way to prevent said competitor from copying the features that are going to make your 81 leave theirs for dead.

I've ordered one and it will turn up when it turns up. Like many, I'd just like to see a picture of it.

Cheers,
Ben

I suppose many just wished to see it, but I think Austrain tends not to showcase their upcoming models, which is different to say Auscision.

If one wants to know, I find John very easy to talk to, in other word one just had to ask him.

I won't be ordering until I get a look at the models.

I went today and yes the painted samples are on display.
All colours of the 81 were on show and the g class unpainted.
I was not in a position to take a pic unfortunately....I'm assuming that someone will post something very soon.

My opinion...
Well they looked good. The candy version was quite good...the red was a shade dark but this is going to corrected in the final samples. The body shape is correct and captures the look old the cab. The freight rail version as expected is a little boring an the PN version also good.
These were just painted test shots and really don't look anything like the finished the product will look like. There was no added detail bit lots of holes around the pilots for the multitude of hoses etc to go on.
There was no painted versions of the  G/BL .
If your going to the show they are located at the end table away from the specials. Just ask and they are happy to show....

No secrets from what I can see.

They kick a$$ on the powerline version as expected and should be a great release....
