A query for my fellow Railpagers.
Did Commonwealth Railways or Australian National ever have a loading/unloading dock and truck transport facility at Spencer Junction in Port Augusta for handling bulk items, such as lumber from Western Australia, along with containers. If so, when, and where was it located?
I understand that the overhead cranes at Spencer Junction were used for rail welding operations in connection with the construction of the Leigh Creek line in the early 1950s. I know too that Commonwealth Railways and Australian National had a goods shed at the end of Commercial Road in Port Augusta (demolished in the early 1980s).
Any information would be welcomed.
Regards,
Ross
