RP3.7 Bugs and Feedback

Agree with Sol.  It's rather pedestrian but it's no slower than it has been for ages.  There are minor variations which seem to relate as much to topic length as to time of day but in general I have to allow 40 - 60 seconds for any page to serve or post to upload.

A couple of minor irritants which I've been living with but are still in the system using Safari 6.0.5 / Mac OSX 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion):

The quote icon from the reply pane does not work.  Typing the {quote} {/quote} tags (using square brackets for an actual quote) manually will result in some sort of code appearing between the tags usually referring to text colour and not the entered / copied - pasted text.  Going to edit mode and saving the post without any changes being made clears it.

A TRN is sent to notify of a new post but clicking the link directs me to the top of the page containing the post and not the post itself.  My workaround is to then press "End" followed by "Page Up" to see the new post rather than scroll through sometimes dozens of already-read posts.

"Notify me of new posts" has to be manually selected as does the inclusion of signatures and icons via the tick boxes; these used to be a default setting and possibly still are but don't work for me.  TRNs are not reliable but without rhyme or reason - most are sent within an hour of a new post (definitely not immediately) and some posts simply don't seem to generate them.  I can't trace this to specific topics, users or the deletion of posts breaking the chain.

As ever I'll leave it in the capable hands of those who understand these things.

Agreed - 30 -40 seconds has slowed to nearer a minute per serve now with no apparent rhyme or reason.

Over the past couple of weeks or so the speed has varied for me from slow to extremely slow.

At work: OS=Windows XP Pro, Browser=Pale Moon, Connectivity: 30mbps fibre
At home: OS=Windows 7 HP, Browser= Firefox, Connectivity: ADSL 2+ at around 12mbps/down 1mbps/up

Of course, at work I only visit in my breaks... Wink

No i was not but had been doing some migration work to the new melbourne server yesterday.  I will take a look at the issue.

I have corrected the issue.  the website is now loaded on the new melbourne server and is now working.  I am going to update the site today with a little special feature.  Stay tuned.

I guess from reading some of the above posts the site has slowed (downloads).  Wasn't sure if it was my old piece of technology (not as old as that which we employ in Melbourne to control our railways!) or the website. No matter.

I've been meaning to post in here for a while now about the very slow initial response/loading of the pages. Even on Telstra Cable 100/2.4 connection at home, 50/50 at work and even my S4 on 3G+/WiFi connections it's very slow to initially load the page.

Considering I'm getting nothing above 30ms pings along each hop to Railpage at home:

In other news, I was wondering if I could put in a feature request: Could we look at adding a list of sub-forums to the bottom of the topic lists, in addition to the list being at the bottom of threads themselves - this is on the mobile version.

Thanks and hopefully that's helpful!

The speed has improved quite a bit over the past 2 or 3 days, however that just means I don't get to play a game in between page loads. Pages still load way slower than other forums/sites I visit.

There are still some high response times at the moment - I realise it's 'peak' time, but just for the Dev's FYI...

That was while loading this page after going up a level to the sub-forum then back to this thread.

From my experience over the past few weeks most of the time it takes a minimum of a minute to load a page, currently it's taking somewhere between 2 to 4 minutes to load the last post in a thread from the 'New Forum Posts' page.

At other times when i click on the icon to view the last post in a thread from the New Forum Posts page the tab at the top of the IE9 window looks to be 'waiting for a response' with the animated circular icon then instead of actually accessing the requested page it just stops and then sits back at the New Forum Posts page - it sometimes does this after thinking about it for up to 1 minute.

The site of late is very frustrating.

I was persuaded to use Google Chrome, just to use this site, and sadly, Railpage performance is no better.
As noted by others above, I also have to wait, and wait, and wait, for pages to load....if I am lucky-I either wait for pages, or get the generic whatever it is called page that says that the page cant load.

First time I've been able to get any access for a few days.  The "server too busy" page loads after around 90 seconds with a random selection of the old excuses first seen during the Great Outage (i.e. "You've Been Jeffed" or "Already called the NRMA - shouldn't be too long") at all other attempts.

Hi guys,

We're not sure exactly what's causing the loss in performance lately, but we've been busy looking into it. Keep the information flowing and we'll do our best to fix it Smile

It took approx. 40 secs to find the site & access it from the e-mail advice  & then about another 40 plus seconds to find this thread - I half excepted to get timed out.
