I just can't understand how people can be so negative of this Government when it has only been in power for a matter of weeks?; especially given how shocking the previous Government was.  I don't hear the people complaining about Abbott and his Government criticising the previous Government and what they did to our country.

Gillard was nothing but a sexist pig that trashed the country financially and threatened the country's sovereignty; to name a few.

2301 is actually that mad South African guy who writes for the Daily Tele who won't reveal who actually pays him for his syndicated fascist rants. Oh dear, there are a couple of them, Bolt and Piers. But I believe Piers is employed by the Dirty Digger so it must be Bolt. The would not have the professionalism to be employed by the ABC, that is why they hate it so much.
nswtrains

This does not justify the ABC using taxpayer's dollars to spew out their socialist agenda.  We are talking about taxpayer dollars here, and no, I am not that guy!

And there is nothing professional about the ABC (except Corrine Karvalio - she's cute.)

The problem I'm seeing is the Liberals need another term just to finish writing their own policies properly. Most of their ideas could fit on a double sided sheet of paper, there is a serious lack of detail on how to implement, or how much it will actually cost.

Case in point their NBN plan, which aside from being faster, cheaper ($19.5 billion), sooner, and involving buying a whole lot of stuff from Huawei, has no real usable details. Lumping NBNco with the problem of how to build it in that short timescale, within that budget, it just asking for a repeat of the previous plan (only resetting all the lessons learned constructing FTTH). I fully expect it to fail massively, go over both time and budget, the poor state of Telstra copper has made it a forgone conclusion.

To call this a show implies it is some sort of entertainment theatre (a circus perhaps ?), but having had two circuses nearby I see there is no comparison. The federal Liberal party is neither entertaining nor a collection of highly trained professionals. Given the choice to watch parliament for free, or pay the get into the circus, I highly recommend the option that costs $35 or so.
fabricator
Contrast and compare that with Labor's NBN... Not costed at all, no cost benefit at all... You fully expect the coalition plan to go over time and over budget... The ALP's NBN had no budget and was grossly behind schedule, constant downward revision of houses passed and connection expactations, towards the end they were taking power network providers to court to gain access to their overhead pole networks (free of compensation I might add) in the small hope they'd get some time back... Yup, Labor's NBN was an epic success.

"2301"

And I suppose your comment here isn't sexist? Printed under the "one rule for me; one rule for everybody else" system. Obviously, and this has been pointed out ad nauseam, the economy was not trashed. Who said so? Financiers from around the world, other Governments,  International Credit Rating Agencies etc. But, of course, they were all wrong and the great 2301 was right. Then, the alleged threat to the country's sovereignty is so absurd as to not warrant any other comment.

2301; never apply for the job of Village Idiot; you are over-qualified. You are a disgrace, and have no place amongst people of any political persuasion who can think clearly and debate, without resorting to nonsense and offensive language.  Many of us here differ in our views and we can discuss them; you are the only one who consistently resorts to comments such as "typical Socialist", "welded-on Labor voter", "lefty", "Socialists new world order" et al. Go and parrot your stupid slogans somewhere else.

I recall reading something some time ago about the fact that Huawei was banned from being able to tender for any NBN Co. work because of an adverse security assessment.  I don't know the substance of the allegations other than to say for some reason ASIO didn't think they should be allowed to tender, maybe because Huawei is closely linked to the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Malcolm Turnbull was quoted in the Financial Review a few days ago saying they were probably going to reverse this ban so it's interesting that the Abbott government is choosing to either ignore or play down the security assessment.  You have to wonder why - perhaps it's because of the impending Free Trade Agreement that Abbott wants to ram through.

I'd imagine under a FTA with the People's Republic we probably wouldn't be allowed to refuse anyway.

So what is so sexist about calling someone a sexist pig when they clearly are a sexist pig?  You really should undertake a course in logic to help you better process information.   Reverse logic seems to apply with you; it's o.k. for you to use colourful language but how dare anyone else........

You're a typical abusive lefto socialist aren't you.

Two responses to that.

First, if I walk up to a person from the sub-continent who's minding their own business and having a curry for lunch and I call that person a "curry muncher", any reasonable person would (correctly) consider my actions to be extremely racist. Yet according to your ridiculous logic, I'd simply be stating a fact and wouldn't be making a racist comment at all. Are you serious?

Second, your whole premise that Ms Gillard is "clearly" a sexist pig, as if it's some well-established proven fact, is laughable. While some commentators (mainly right-of-centre) have made the dubious argument that she's sexist given that she dared to 'play the gender card' during her prime ministership, I am not aware of even the most conservative of commentators describing her as a "pig".

I haven't visited Railpage since before the election. Clearly you haven't changed one bit, have you 2301? If anything, you seem to have become just that bit more nasty, vitriolic and abusive towards the previous government. The election has been won by the side you mindlessly barrack for, you can get down off the soap box and take a breather now champ.

Well, it is a common colloquial term that is given to people that betray these attributes; I will draw to your attention her famous misogynist speech and numerous sexist rants which I and many other Australian men found offensive and sexist to say the least.

Secondly, when people are in public office they offer themselves up to ridicule, satire and criticism; they are well aware of this when they take the trappings of their office on.  I don't hear you Labor luvies carrying on about the argy bargy coming from people on the left side of politics; oh nooooo...........that is perfectly legitimate in your minds.

Dungog Diesel, Valvegear and et al; stop being so hypocritical and pretending to be virtuous and intellectually superior people.

Australia's largest individual fund manager has come out against Joe Hockey's view of our housing market and banks in the Financial Review last week, basically saying he wouldn't touch our banks with a barge-pole because they're over-exposed. Now it's obvious that Hockey and Abbott aren't to blame for this situation, however, what Matthew McLennan was saying is that he felt these risks should be talked about openly and honestly - as opposed to Joe Hockey's speech in New York a few weeks ago where he said unconditionally that 'nothing is wrong, Australia is different'.

As I pointed out recently, it's well within our government's power to stop or at least slow down the amount of private money being borrowed overseas but in line with the last government they won't even discuss what's wrong.  Why?  And where does this leave the contention that the Abbott government is going to bring down our foreign debt?  Clearly they're in favour of more of the same.

As a blanket response to those who continue to trash Labour's NBN plan.

Not planned ? When the FTTN idea collapsed after Telstra refused to tender. The Labor government went to industry, eg your ISPs and phone companies, and asked them what option is there when Telstra refuses to be involved. The choice of paying $25-30 odd billion to basically buy back a huge chunk of Telstra, or spending the same sort of money to build a new network using fibre. Only an idiot would buy up the old copper.

Not costed ? If it wasn't costed it wouldn't be able to operate, anyone that believes it was never costed is either a massive liar, or a massive fool.

Behind schedule ? Yes, Telstra's stalling on negotiations/asbestos gaffs and the industry not being up to actually building what they tendered to do.

Is the NBNco board to blame for delays ? Only partially, if you pay a builder to build you a new house for a certain price, and they take months longer, complain about needing more money, you can't blame yourself or the architect. Because they signed a contract, and should bloody well get to work on it.
Some areas were redesigned (and hence delayed), and NBNco should have checked the companies building it actually had the staff to do the work.

Overbudget ? No, despite what the toe rag newspapers and Liberal party say, NBNco barely touched the $3b contingency fund in case of budget issues. Independent people who actually design and build FTTH networks actually priced up a fictional nation wide network long before the government announced it, their figures also match the government's ones.

Even when NBNco release actual figures on what the network IS costing to build, the Liberals continue to sprout the same tired line that they don't believe the figures, and it must have cost 3 times what has been listed. Seriously are they actually accusing the board of fraud ?

Finally I'd like to say that replacing our nation's tired, slow and increasing unreliable copper with new, fast, reliable glass fibre is absolutely the right move to make. The only problems are getting a proper construction team together, and getting rid of all the idiots who smeg and moan about how much it's going to cost and how they don't want to wait for it/don't want it. The same types of people complained about the Sydney Harbour bridge, the Snowy Mountains scheme, the XPT, every single airport in the country, etc etc.

The first one is a very forgivable mistake, he obviously got carried away in the heat of the moment and the Royals do have that affect on people so I'm told (the Queen especially, she's supposed to be really charming in person).

The second one is really bad form.  He needs to conduct himself with more dignity overseas and remember that he's PM now, not opposition leader.  Foreigners don't need to hear that sort of party political dross, not from a visiting Prime Minister.
