    I see in some of your earlier trackwork photos old rail line pushed to the side of the track formation near Bullarto, is this old 60lb rail where it has been replaced by 75lb rail?  Is it being used as ballast retainer or is it going to be recycled. I am also curious as to who and when this section of line was upgraded to 75lb, was it done by the VR/VLine or was it a DSCR initiative?

    The track in the photo was replaced by DSCR as part of the current project. Some of the 60D rail which has been replaced will be used in relaying No2 road at Bullarto, some in the future planned extension of the rolling stock shed and into stock as spare for the sections of track that will remain D. Some has also been cascaded to Puffing Billy for use in the museum as it remains a VicTrack asset.


    This continues the work that the VR undertook in 1952 when they replaced many of the 60D curves between Daylesford and Bullarto with either 75lb or 60AS rail.

    G6 actually. Little 6-567C in some of them but Y159 has a 6-645E.

    The Walkers and the DERM are really great examples in preservation/operation.  I wonder if they get many TV or film productions using them?  It's really easy to imagine you are back in the fifties on a branch line somewhere when you are riding along in a Walker - it's been years since I've ridden on the DSCR but the experience is really unique.

    That's one of the main aims of the DSCR. ie: to provide as close as possible to an authentic branch line experience using the rolling stock (ie: Railmotors) that performed this task for most of the 20th century. ie: it's more than just another train ride, it's a trip back in time.

    Been a bit of a while since we have had an update.
    32RM's restoration has progressed at a great pace recently with work focusing on the van.

    The guards van has had the entire end wall rebuilt along with other frame work.


    The original door frames have been repaired and refitted

    With the repairs to the frame complete, the inside has been clad with new Masonite paneling.



    All that remains now is the fitting of the curved aluminum ceiling panels, luggage racks, guards desk, seat etc and the van will be complete.  Then its on to the external paneling and power unit.

    Also the drivers cabs for 53RM have been manufactured and installed.

    Yesterday (14/9/13) DSCR ran a ballast train through the Bullarto-Musk section, a few gunzels took advantage of the tip off posted on facebook earlier in the week, myself included.

    Been a while since we have had an update...

    Over the last week or so the entire line from Musk to Bullarto has been tamped and partly regulated.

    "





    As well as the track work side of the project, a new timber signal is being manufactured for Bullarto,  its almost ready for placement at Bullarto.  We are just waiting on the new finial (the original was stolen a couple of years back) and the re-enameled semaphore arm.  

    Also the construction of several buildings at Bullarto has commenced, with the gangshed, lamproom, vanshed and weighbridge hut being built.  The buildings that have no internal lining are being built with hardwood to replicate what the originals would have looked like internally.

    Hi all,

    Services between Daylesford and Bullarto will be recommencing from this Sunday the 29th of December.   Trains will depart Daylesford at 9:45, 11:00, 12:15, 13:45 and 15:00 for a 1hr return trip. (Please note the 15:00 service will run to Musk only)

    The building works at Bullarto have been completed...  As well as the new Bullarto home signal.

    Just a reminder that Saturday 4 January will see the first run of DRC40 to Bullarto since the 2009 fires at the Daylesford Spa Country Railway

    "The Silver Streak" departs at 5:30pm and returns around 7:00pm. If anyone wants to go for a ride, it's $45 including drinks and finger food and bookings are through the website: http://www.dscr.com.au/silverstreak.php

    The next steps are improvements to existing infrastructure and the completion of 153 Walker 32RMs restoration. Work is also continuing on double ended leyland 53RM.

    I made my way up to the DSCR to document the Silver Streak on Saturday Night. Due to previous commitments I wasn't able to get up there until they had already made their way up to Bullarto but I was able to get plenty of shots on the return run.
