A similar lash-up came into Sydney on the Short North two weeks ago - Wednesday 13th - though the 47 was 08 on that occasion, not 02. Coming south, the sequence was 4911 (in CRL colours) + 4910 + 4917 all short-hood leading + 4708 facing the other way at the back of the group. Consist was SRA ballast wagons.

My apologies to Raichase (above) - I failed to acknowledge your tip-off for Friday in my previous post. Many thanks for the heads-up!

No dramas - I too have heard about the movements you mentioned above, but only as they happened, and I figured others might be in the same boat! Nice to have advance notice for these things so one can get trackside, rather than try and react on the day. Might see you out there.

Does anyone know what time it would be passing by Cowan? Or Hornsby area?

Thanks,Dave.torana.

Dave, I recall reading it was due out of Chullora at 1250, so say about 1330 at the earliest for Hornsby?

Thanks Trent, sadly due to my injury, the nurse wont be coming until early afternoon today.
But i look forward to seeing something on this site. Like bevans video put up a few weeks ago of the GM' and 49ers travelling from Marulan to Temora with a ballast Train, through the Cullerin Range. It was great to see. I did see the video taken about 2 weeks ago of the Movement from North to Chullora of the Rail Ballast wagons and Machinery. Unbelievable to see.
Keep up the good work of keeping us informed-and all of your colluges on this ste.

The train is to return with loaded rail on Monday, headed for Boree Creek, although it is to run through Sydney overnight sadly. That would be one to hear going up Cowan Bank, the four locos made enough noise with the train empty!

I have been busy this morning working out the running times for this train to return to Sydney[Chullora].So if it departs Werris Creek at 2.30.p.m. Monday, and the X.P.T. takes 5.1/2.hrs to get to Sydney. Then this Diesel Set of 4 Locos plus its load of Rails could appear at Cowan anytime after 8.p.m. on Monday Evening. My plan is to be Station side, prepared for its passing.Video and all.You will hear it miles away as it climbs Cowan Bank in the still of Night.I intend to be on the down line ,side of the platforms.Come say hello.
Any last news would be appreciated.Or up-dates.

Dave, information on Facebook indicates that they're now planning for a daylight run through Sydney, out of Broadmeadow after the morning peak on Tuesday morning. I'll attempt to put up any more information if it comes to hand. Beware that the running times for this train will be substantially slower than an XPT or even a normal intermodal train due to the loading, maximum speed of rolling stock and the weight of the train.

Tuesday 2.p.m. i have just returned home after spending from 9.45.a.m. til 11.25.a.m. sitting on Cowan Railway Station waiting and hoping to see the Rails Train and Locomotives passing by.But i never saw them. They must have passed by early in the morning.I rang Gosford and Berowra Signal Boxes, but they could not shed any light on the matter. So i would say that they were Gonnnneeeee.

Don't worry Dave, you're not the only one who was caught out - I was showing a friend of mine some of the highlights of the Newcastle area (Carrington, Morandoo yards) yesterday and we stopped in at Wyee to wait for this train, and it never turned up. Turns out it indeed got a run from Broadmeadow into Sydney before the peak, only to cause problems for CountryLink trains on the south when it ran slowly.

Thank you Raichase- i enjoyed my time at Cowan, Freight and Passenger Trains passing by, whilst i sat in the Sunshine. But at Cowan, i did notice another 'Gunzel',sitting up on a rock at the Northern end of the Siding at Cowan. So i thought that he must have known something, but  left at 11.25.a.m. and headed home.But,Hey- there will be other trains and other 'Specials' to look out for on another day.Or should i say- There will be other Trains. You did your Best to help US ALL.
