Fitting a Kadee to Roco VR F Class Loco

People,

I'm in the process of converting the Roco NS 500/600 Shunter into an F Class shunter.

A couple of slight problems so far.

How does one fit a Kadee to the Roco loco?

I've purchased the dress-up kit from BGM, an excellent product, but the mind boggles over some of the smaller items on the fret. Any clues or has anyone made a diagram of what goes where?

I understand the shunter's boards and the cowcatcher but some of the other stuff, wow, I'm stumped.

If anyone has done the conversion and has any useful tips I would be most appreciative.

And yes, I have read the other posts relating to the F Class conversion and they were useful in a general way but didn't answer the above questions.

I've read the AMRM article, excellent reading but....maybe some photos of someone's efforts might be also useful to assist me.

Thanks in advance.

Checking my loco, it looks like I carved away all the moulded coupler mount stuff to leave a flat surface, then drilled & tapped for a 8BA bolt up into the frame & maybe weight. A Kadee 156 in its original box (as mine is a buffer fitted loco) was used at each end

Smithy,

I have a Kadee coupler kit that has every HO Kadee available in it, if you need any to try, you know where to find me.

Thanks for that info. The pics were also a real help, as to the placement of some of the dress-up parts.

Out of the box it should be fitted with NEM pockets which can cater for Kadee 17,18,19,20 couplings.

It depends though older models of these by Roco did not have the NEM pockets on them from memory. The one I have is a older model and it did not have them on there, mine goes way back to the first release of it though.. I had to figure out a way to mount Kadee's on the model.

And of course, the NEM ones are not in the every type Kadee sample pack, still plenty to choose from though, could still be of use.

True! Yes all depends on the age of the model! Does BGM give you plate to mount them above the cowcatchers?

4464,

I can't see any thing that looks like a mounting plate on the BGM fret, but then again, I'm still stumped as to what some of the stuff on the fret is and where it goes.
