    Hunter Line  - Delays


    The 11:25am Newcastle to Telarah train on the Hunter Line has been cancelled due to the train requiring mechanical repairs at Wickham. Passengers are advised to catch the 11:44am Newcastle to Telarah train. Additionally the 12:10pm Telarah to Newcastle train is also cancelled. Passengers are advised to catch the 12:37pm Telarah to Newcastle train. Passengers are advised to allow additional travel time and check indicator boards where available.

    T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line  - Major delays


    Trains have resumed on the T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line in both directions between Sutherland and Waterfall and on the South Coast Line between Sutherland and Thirroul in that direction following urgent track repairs at Sutherland. Buses may supplement some trains between Waterfall and Sutherland. Passengers travelling on both lines are advised to check indicator boards, listen to station announcements and allow plenty of additional travel time.

    Alerts for T1 North Shore, Northern & Western

    T1 Northern Line trains from Hornsby not stopping at Cheltenham due to a fallen tree near the station
    Current as at 15:43 Thu 5 December

    Trains from Hornsby on the T1 Northern Line are not stopping at Cheltenham due to a fallen tree near the station. Passengers travelling from Hornsby who want to alight at Cheltenham are advised to continue onto Epping, then change for a service back to Cheltenham. Passengers planning to catch a citybound train at Cheltenham Station are advised to travel to Beecroft Station instead. Passengers should also listen to annoucements and check indicator boards at stations.

    Passengers catching trains on the T1 North Shore Line are advised to allow additional travel time due to a fallen tree at North Sydney station and urgent equipment repairs at Hornsby. Passengers should also listen to station announcements and check indicator boards.

    South Coast Line Major Delays

    Trains have resumed operating on the South Coast Line between Waterfall and Thirroul following the partial closure of the line, due to the activation of a landslip monitor alarm at Helensburgh. Buses will continue operate, supplementing train services. Passengers are advised to allow plenty of additional travel time, listen to stations announcements and check indicator boards.

    Just a heads up folks, the North Shore Line will be suspended for a short time today:

    Passengers on the North Shore, Northern & Western Line should allow plenty of additional travel time due to urgent track repairs at Central. At 11am the T1 North Shore Line will partially close between Wynyard and Central. T1 North Shore Line trains travelling towards the city will terminate at North Sydney or Wynyard. Passengers wishing to travel beyond Wynyard are advised to change at Wynyard to continue on a service via the City Circle. Passengers already in the city wishing to travel on the T1 North Shore Line will need to travel via the City Circle and change at Wynyard to continue their journey. Trains on the T1 Northern & Western Line will operate via the City Circle. Passengers travelling on the T1 North Shore, Northern & Western Line are advised to allow additional travel time, check indicator boards and listen to station announcements. Repair work is expected to be complete for the afternoon peak. As an alternative passengers are able to use their train tickets on Sydney Buses between North Sydney and Central.

    North Sydney was a points failure, Central was a broken rail. Two separate issues, by poor co-incidence right on top of each other.

    Buses are replacing the 5.31am Goulburn to Central train and the 7.53am Campbelltown to Moss Vale train due to a train requiring mechanical repairs at Moss Vale. Passengers are advised to allow extra travel time.

    Central Coast & Newcastle Line  - Partial Closure


    Buses are now replacing trains between Morisset and Fassifern on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line as it is partially closed in both directions due to urgent overhead wiring repairs at Dora Creek. Trains are still running between Sydney and Morisset, and between Fassifern and Newcastle. Train tickets can be used on buses in the affected area instead. Passengers should allow plenty of additional travel time, listen to station announcements and check indicator boards for more information.

    Does anyone know why the Newcastle and Central Coast line trains that have been diverted via the North Shore line since Boxing Day are not stopping at wynyard and town hall stations?

    The trains crawl through the tunnels and stop short of the platform, before crawling through without stopping (actually seems to happen most of the way between Hornsby and central). Lots of people get up expecting the train to stop at the city stations as well and then once they get to central, have to then catch another train back to wynyard or town hall.

    I asked a guard and station staff and they both had no idea why they are scheduled to stop at Chatswood but not wynyard or town hall. Anyone know the reason or how to complain? It is actually pretty inconvenient for a lot of people and is just insulting when the train stops for 2 mins between wynyard and town hall but not at the platforms to let people out!

    The reason for the stop/slow at both Wynyard  and Town Hall, is due to the delay with warning lights, instructions state that trains not stopping in the city circle must approach the platform at 10kmh, then proceed through at 15kmh.

    All the other slow bits are most likely due to following of all stations trains.

    As for complaining about not stopping at Wynyard & Town Hall, 131500 is the number for that. Reason they stop at Chatswood is for passengers wanting Epping.

    They are operating express from Chatswood to Hornsby via Gordon.

    Use of Chatwsood as the intermediate stop is not new. Newcastle & Central Coast rail replacement buses during full shutdowns normally operate via Chatswood on the way out to Newcastle.

    AndyV, because they are meant to be interurban, NOT suburban trains. They already take almost 3 hours for a semi-express, and just over for slower train via North Shore. And besides, you will have the large crowds at Wynyard & Town Hall getting on, even if their was a passenger restriction at Wynyard & Town Hall.

    No AndyV, the insulting thing is that people use these interurban trains as suburban trains. And as others have said, non-stopping trains are restricted to 10kmh through underground platforms.

    And it should be set down to Central & pick up from Central at Chatswood.
    Now if they could just run some of the expresses to a similar stopping pattern as the trackwork bus route, Route 300. (ie: no stopping between Broadmeadow & Hornsby!)

    So they don't go through the ECRL then?

    The trackwork calender said they were at first, but that was changed to go via the whole North Shore.
    If they don't change it again, the trackwork calender states they are due to go via Macquarie Park sometime in March 2014.

    Furthermore, 8-car V Set trains don't fit on the platforms at Wynyard or Town Hall (nor Central, but the staff manage the disembarking of passengers safely). To perform this at Wynyard and Town Hall would require additional staff and additional time in the timetable.

    Is it annoying to sail through Town Hall only to catch a train back? Yes. However, there are reasons for this, most of which have been stated. Given that the train is not timetabled to stop at Town Hall normally, and one needs to change at Central, one could argue there is no basis for complaint.
