Strangway Railway Station (Central Victoria)

Found a reference to Strangway Railway Station said to be located on the cross country line between Maryborough and Castlemaine.

As yet, the reference on wikipedia has not been started. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strangway_railway_station,_Victoria

As a young child I attended camp near the railway line during my primary school years.  I never remember anything but a tin shed containing railway flags and a lantern during the years I attended the camp.  In the early years we would take a train from Melbourne to Castlemaine and change to a rail motor (platform 3) which dropped a load of primary school kids at what was not more (from memory) than a stopping place. (Strangways)

My question is was there ever anything more than a tin shed with a lamp and flags?

Brian

There is a tin shed located beside the line 1/2 a kmh on the Newstead side of where the train line and road cross at strangways. It looks like a govt thing, something like what a trolley etc would be stored in but back a bit from the track in a paddock. There is also what looks like some VR gates that go across the little track road leading to the cottage on the other sid eof the track.

Whilst we are in the neighbourhood so to speak...

Tomorrow, Sunday 8th December is:

http://www.bendigoadvertiser.com.au/story/1948143/community-rallies-for-regional-rail-link/

While this may have been lampooned by some of our former posters, it must be remembered that a journey around the World is taken with a first step, consequently, it may be some time before this link through central Victoria is reopened to passenger traffic however in view of the population growth in Melbourne and outer environs, it's inevitable this line will re-open.

So be there and you can say you were at the first rally in support.

If you'd like to go but can't get there due to no car, let me know and travel with me from Ballan.

Mike.

The tin shed is doing 1/2 km/h? You'd better stop it before it gets away! Laughing

The copypasta may need some editing...
