Well it's certainly a long time between drinks on this thred.

A trip back to Horsham, on the weekend I found a couple of articles of interest. It would appear after not the easiest first 12 months, a deal has been sealed for a bit of freight from the eastern side of the Wimmera, to hitch a ride from the Dooen Freight Hub.

According to the Gheringhap Loop website there are currently two Dooen trains per day each way. Does anyone know if this is to cover the new contract, or has QUBE started up operations again, (as assumed on the Gheringhap site).

QUBE Dooen Service runs as 9719 on the down and 7920 on the up. This train runs to Dooen on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays. This also goes into QUBE's new grain train starting today out west loading at Marmalake and heading to Geelong.

logistically how will geelong wagons be handled? if the containers to through to the port of melbourne how will the remaining grain be split and taken to geelong?

unless i missed the memo, there is no container handling facilities at Geelong, or rail loading facilities for same at Marmalake, so one would imagine that grain will be in bulk. Interesting to see where they get the bulk wagons from. Guess thats what C501 was going to collect today.

There are two separate trains running around. The Vitera containerised grain from Dooen with a single GL and another bulk grain train with hoppers from NSW that has two GL's.

This is great news notwithstanding the protracted process to get two operators to agree to operate together at Dooen. This concept is precisely why standardising the rest of the regional freight network in Victoria to enable various  operators access to the network and investing in a few multi user terminals is a way to rejuvenate regional freight on rail. This has been occurring quite widely in NSW in places like Moree, Blayney and now this week at Kelso. We have recently seen the new services commence out of Harefield near Junee.  Before that there was only the PN Griffith service serving the Wagga Bomens area not Qube and PN between them are pulling massive tonneage out of the region.  We would definitely get a major lift in rail freight in Victoria through standardisation and the evidence is now here to demonstrate this.

Seems the SCT service between West Swanston Dock and Dooen Intermodal Terminal is getting bigger.  http://www.railpage.com.au/railcams/bunbury-street/photo/31452143004

Now running 2 x locos on the regular daily service with today 49 wagons to the Port.  Add to this the SCT services from Dooen to Adelaide and you have quite a few containers highlighting for other operators just how things should be done.

I haven't been watching things closely, but I didn't  think the Adelaide - Dooen train had run for quite a few weeks now?

There's a planed SCT service between Barnawartha and Penfield ?

This service could be used to convoy Dooen Penfield loading.

Id say that we will see an interesting hook/dehook pattern on the SCT services on this route.

Nightfire

a) Unlikely to be a dedicated service - just wagons attached/detached from BM/MP and PM/MB services regardless of what it says in the press releases.

b) The loading is predominantly Adelaide - Dooen rather than Dooen - Adelaide and is seasonal.

c) Things can always change.

SCT have just today allocated BK001 and BK002 to 7921 and 7922 Dooen Goods between the Terminal and West Swanston Dock.  The return journey to Melbourne passed Gheringhap at 13:20 and was recorded.
