Please forgive me for asking, but.....
I have searched and searched but to no avail.
Does anyone have a link to a current map of Southern Cross Station that includes the new platform 15/16?
The V/Line web site has a map of Southern Cross but that doesn't include the new platforms.

Thank you Smile

This often happens when platforms pop up overnight.

Ha!
This is directed to V/Line, not anyone here, but....
How long have V/Line known about Pl 15/16 coming online?
They have managed to draw up the new Geelong timetables (minus Nth Melb station) pretty quickly.

I am sure they could have sent some poor work experience kid to a computer with a graphics program  for the afternoon in the last couple of weeks and asked him or her to produce a new simple map with the extra platforms!!!! Laughing

The new track work diagrams for Southern Cross to South Kensington including platforms 15/16 have been published in the Weekly Nuisance some weeks ago .

At Southern Cross the station management are asleep in that there is no signage to indicate to VLP pax how they actually get to platforms 15/16 .

Having not been into Melbourne SCS for a while now are both the new platforms electrified?

No, and most likely no intention to do so in the near future.

Surely it's not that hard to find. They are next to 13/14, which are next to 11/12.  I can see that pattern, can't VLP passengers?

A mistake IMHO not to electrify. In the event of a malfunction 15/16 could be used if they were electrified to either run past or stop at if required.

No No No We do not want any wire on platform 15, its bad enough we have wire on platform 16 (i think) as in the future the MET will say can we run our race/show specials and we would end up with what we have now, bugger all time to load/unload pax. It wasn't that long ago that the government at the time proposed the gauge to run there. This is how it stands for V/line in the met, if we run late they say we have lost or path, if they run late we follow them as we are timetabled to follow them. Why do you think we have the RRL. Its so we don't delay any sparks and they can put more services on. The MET don't give a rats smeg about V/line and they will be very happy as we will when its separated.  Merry Xmas Cheers.

I certainly saw signage to indicate where pl 15/16 is on the Bourke St overpass when I passed through Southern Cross twice today (25/12/2013).
There is signage where the suburban myki gates are, and also at the top of the escalators to the platforms.
Oh, and by the way, contrary to V/Line media hype, the Geelong trains I used did not use pl 15/16 as I was hoping today. The 1031hrs up from Geelong arrived Southern Cross pl 8a, and the 1800hrs down to Geelong departed pl 3a Crying or Very sad

That signalling diagram is very interesting.
For one thing, the person who signed off on it for V/Line, Rupert Capper, is also Treasurer for Bellarine Railway, where I volunteer. Probably doesn't mean much to most people here, but it would to those of us who volunteer at BR! Laughing

The RRL platforms at Southern Cross are about the only country platforms to get any action at the moment, with all the works going on. The other 8 platforms are deserted except for one full of H sets.

Can't say I really like the new platform. Suppose I will get used to it.

Platforms 15 & 16 are to remain unwired, for pretty much that reason; it's not just so sparks don't get held up, but vline won't either.
The freight bypass line (road 16a) is wired, but not the platforms.
