The above project moves towards a start as 70% shareholder Gina Rinehardt raises $10b finance.

A 344km railway is needed to Port Hedland, and the mine expects to produce 55MTPA.

A search of RP, revealed no earlier mention of the "Roy Hill" project.

I think there is an issue with the search function today.   There is a news item or a number on the roy hill project.  Has it now been green lighted?

Export-Import Bank approves $694 million for export of U.S. rail, mining equipment to Australia Published: December 20, 2013
WASHINGTON – The Export-Import Bank of the United States has authorized a $694.4 million loan to Roy Hill Holdings of Australia, contingent upon the purchase of U.S. mining and rail equipment from General Electric and Caterpillar Inc.

The exported equipment will contribute to the development of the Roy Hill iron ore mine, an open-pit surface mine in the Pilbara region of northwestern Australia. The mine sits approximately 280 kilometers south of Port Hedland.

The financing increases the likelihood that GE will furnish locomotives to transport the iron ore to the port. “[Export-Import] Bank’s support of the Roy Hill’s Australian iron-ore project represents a major milestone for the mining industry and U.S. job growth,” says Russell Stokes, president and CEO of GE Transportation. “Further, it’s testament to the great outcomes that can be achieved through collaboration of federal and private sector leadership. We’re thrilled to have our locomotives leading the charge and enabling transport efficiencies.”

The loan also increases the likelihood that Caterpillar will provide surface-mining equipment for the project.

The Export-Import Bank of the United States is an independent federal agency that creates and maintains U.S. jobs by filling gaps in private export financing at no cost to taxpayers. The agency provides a variety of financing mechanisms, including working-capital guarantees, export-credit insurance, and financing to help foreign buyers purchase U.S. goods and services. In the past fiscal year, it earned more than $1 billion above the cost of operations.

Appears they just got a standard ES44 model and painted it up. Wonder who they sourced some of the others from....

At least one of the ES44AC units had CSX type GE steering trucks, suggesting that it might have been modified from a Broadway Limited AC 6000. The NR class all appeared to be Austrains, but the other units appeared to be scratch built. The cabs were not Austrains NR cabs. The 5020 seemed to be sitting higher on its trucks than it should, suggesting that it had bogies from a US Domestic model.

The Roy Hill and RTIO ES44ACs (yes the models are bog standard ES44ACs) look to both be Intermountain models, at a guess they've just used a CSX version with the 4 window cab. The only C43/44s there that don't look scratchbuilt is the CEY, it appears to be the Auscision model.

Earth works are well underway, well up until the Christmas - New Year spell.
And TC Christine might make the place a little soft under foot for a week or two.

The line is very close to the Great Northern Highway around the Hillside Rd (168km south of town).

CD4301 is sitting on stands on the eastern edge of Hedland near the Broome Rd.

And the shiny yellow rail train rake is at the cattle yards on the west, outside town, not the town yards near South Creek.

The Roy Hill project has gained $10b funding, even though work has already started.

Hey guys, are there any ideas when the Roy Hill locos are likely to start arriving in the Pilbara?

I just received a photo from a friend of a friend of a friend of a mate in WA. RHA1001 is completed just like the HO model in the showcase further back in this thread.
The only difference I can see is the gold/copper/red windscreen tinting , its really quite distinctive. Windscreen is rectangular and not Rio / HI / SD70M shaped. I don't have any further details other than loco 1 looks to be complete.

I believe that GE stopped offering the shaped window option and Rio's ES44ACi units and their last three ES44DCi units have the rectangular windows. I believe it occurred when thicker plate was adopted for the cab structure and GE decided no longer to offer the different nose shape that went with the larger windows. The main North American user was Canadian National.

Roy Hill track laying is currently just south of the FMG 90km post, south of the Wodgina Rd crossing, and just south of the Beccia bore pipeline.

CD4303 was on the track end, and track was ballasted to within about 10 metres of the loco.

At this location FMG and Roy Hill are only about 200 metres apart.

The rail at the port end stops about 50 metres short of the Great Northern Highway.

Forgot to mention, Roy Hill crosses the BHP Billiton line just north of Coonarrie Creek and their location of Coonarie about 179 km, and then crosses the FMG line at a similar location between Gibb and Coonarie about the 162 km.

BHP and FMG are about 1.2 km apart at this location.

Earth works are still in progress and no bridge beam is in place yet.

And ballasted to the 111 km post.

Any empty ballast train was seen with CD4305 on the north end and CD4302 on the south, train consist was 46 ballast cars and 1 plough on the south end.
