Ah right, got ya. I'm not sure how to modify that, still learning the ropes with DCC, especially DCC sound locos. Maybe lowering the starting voltage might help?

If you can see your way to using Decoderpro, you will find that these sorts of issues are very easy to fiddle with and perfect to your own desire.....without the need to remember a whole host of CVs and other settings.
I bought a 2nd hand laptop off ebay for about $60- and have that permanently connected to my NCE procab in the shed. Decoderpro is all it gets used for and it doesn't have to be the latest and greatest computer.
Even though I have been using my DCC for a few years now and hooked-up the laptop about 18 months ago, I am still finding ways to tweak the decoders for better effect.
The scenario you mention (ie: having the sound commence and then the wheels start turning shortly after) can be easily achieved using the various options in Decoderpro with regard to momentum etc.
Not only that, but if you have a number of locos of the same make/class etc (eg: I have 5 Trainorama 44 class), you can get one going the way you want it, save the data in Decoderpro, then systematically re-program the other locos with that same data (except for the loco running number of course). It takes less time to do all that than it has taken me to type all this!!!
By the way, I am NOT any sort of computer geek and still struggle with some simple computer tasks.....but Decoderpro is great AND free (although they do seek donations; which I was pleased to provide $20- recently).
Cheers
