I would have thought the wear should be pretty even, the net change of direction from Adelaide to Seaford being less than 90 degrees to the left. If Labor win the election they'll probably electrify to Salisbury just in time for the next one, after which the current practice of simply making sure units are rotated between the different routes would be more than sufficient.

But yes, until then it should be fine to swap bogies in and out, and the necessary hardware should be in place in the commissioning shed at Seaford Depot to do such a routine job on what, presumably, are modern multiple units with modular components designed to make routine maintenance efficient

4005T was delivered first.  I saw it, about 10 days ago, sitting on its own in the unloading road, E of the depot.  The recent sets have had the trailer delivered first.

I'm really quite surprised this one got through to the keeper...

But last night a test run of a 4000 class EMU was scheduled to do a number of test runs between 2100-0500 from Seaford to Adelaide Station and return.

As I had finished work well before that was due to commence, I cannot confirm if it went ahead, but it certainly was planned, and that was the intention!

Will check and confirm at work today.

Jumbo, they all so focussed on doom and gloom that when something positive comes along they don't how to react Shocked, I will also be looking forward to some positive news when I get to work (fingers X'ed)  Smile.

I heard a rumour in another place. Another correspondent suggested it was wind.
A photo earlier posted on Facebook disappeared before I saw it.

I think it was sensible doing the initial runs without fanfare.

I also heard a report that a unit was pushed by a 3000 from ARS to Seaford last Thursday.

Keep us informed Wayne.

Ok gents, great news! There will be EMU movements to ARS from Seaford TODAY!!

It's planned that EMU 4001 will depart Seaford at 1830 and run as follows:

Depart Noarlunga: 1832
Arrive Brighton: 1850
Depart Brighton: 1855
Arrive Platform 1 ARS: 1930

It'll hold for a few mins at Mile End. At 1935 it is booked to return to Brighton then back to ARS and perform some shunt movements.

So fellas, get those cameras out! I hope to see some excellent photos of this momentus occasion now I have provided the correct planned info Smile

It wouldn't be surprising if the planned run didn't happen due to the high winds last night. The weather caused significant issues with transport-related infrastructure including the tram line, signalling-related train delays, trees falling across the O-Bahn and conventional traffic lights being knocked out.

Someone on facebook reported a train on the line at 1:30 in the morning so it's very like a full run between Seaford and ARS has already occurred

I certainly heard of complaints about level crossings activating for long periods of time during the night, but that could have been caused by weather-related issues causing the crossings to fail.

I was there at the Adelaide Railway Station for the event there were alot of staff members there and alot of engineers and some of the ministers. Plenty of people taking photos of the occasion everyone was excited when it turned up we even got an announcement at the station that the new train had arrived.

Wayne will be please to know I am impressed.

Thanks Jumbo for the heads up.

Saw them on both trips up and down past SASMEE.

They make less track noise than the 3000 when they enter the Goodwood underpass.
How much longer can they be kept so shiny?

They were bold interspersing them with the regular trains; particularly if last night's test run had been cancelled.

Congrats to all. Very Happy

Some excellent photos there! I was lucky to be around the station at the time it arrived so I took a bit of a gander at it coming in. Quite the occasion, even as low key really as it was.

Fantastic to see all of the work come to fruition!

From all reports, 4001 performed flawlessly on its run into Adelaide Station.

Thanks guys for the thanks for the information I provided. Some people obviously aren't as grateful, but its nice to be appreciated when this type of information is shared. Certainly means I wont hesitate in sharing in the future. As far as planned movements go, this one was right on the button for times!

Finally, I can report 4003 has completed all of its testing and commissioning so should be right to go for the start of services this month Smile
