Another update:

Sunshine Station platform 4 is well underway. The area between the station and the citybound RRL junction on the south side appears to be under preparation for track laying. The citybound track from this junction is almost laid all the way to West Footscray, the outbound track still needs to be laid between Tottenham Station and the above junction. Track laying has begun in the Footscray central area, and at Footscray Station, platforms 3 & 4 have been partly demolished for refurbishment.

Ardeer, Deer park continue to be served by Melton, Bacchus Marsh & Ballarat trains.

With 4 tracks Sunshine to Robinsons Rd, all will get grade separation .

I went on an inspection trip today and saw

Footscray station

* The escalators at the Irving Street entrance are available for public use.
* New stairs available at the Hyde Street entrance, escalators to come online later.
* The building at platforms 4&5 interior is no longer seen, my best guess is that the interior is fully stripped out. Platforms 2&3 is a similar story but the guttered interior can be seen from the new staircase.
* The PSO box is in the building on Platform 6
* Ramp from platform 6 to footbridge is almost ready. Other ramps are mostly under construction.
* The pit at platforms 3&4 as well as most of the platform face has been dismantled.
* The indoor waiting room is now open on platform 1.
* For some reason the lights on Platforms 1-3 were on even though the sun was shining.

West Footscray
* Lifts Complete
* Still a bit off from the stairs to the ramps being built.

Tottenham
* New Substation up and running.
* Old substation completely gone.
* Ongoing works on the new entrance at Sunshine road.

Sunshine
* Ramp to Platform 1 from the footbridge opened.
* Ongoing works to fill in the old subway.
* Platforms 3&4 don't look like they would be commissioned until July at the earliest. The track work is on hold until the subway is filled in.
* The lifts from street level to the footbridge are underway and due for commissioning in April.

Is there a date when ballarat and bendigo services will use rrl tracks from sunshine to Southern cross?

There is a signal testing shutdown planned for April 18-28, presumably it will be after this date.

Thank you. Do you know if the new signal testing will include track west of the sunshine railway station?

I think that's being done over the Labour Day weekend.

Can someone please tell us if the new RRL line will be controlled from Geelong or Melbourne?

This is from Manor Lakes Boulevard.
The cutting is about twice as wide beneath the bridge - it's extended on the right.

It's good to see that the cutting is built four tracks wide beneath the bridge, so they won't have to replace the bridge if extra tracks are built in the future, but they're not wasting money building the whole cutting four tracks wide, when that can be easily done in the future if extra tracks are needed.

Surprisingly good planning from the bureaucracy. Smile

The only fault is there's no room for an extra track pair through the station. Confused

I also noticed this. If any terminals are built off this rail line in the future a bypass track may have been handy as it could have provided dual gauge?

Compared to building a bridge, digging out some dirt when the time comes is a piece of cake.

Yes, I would have thought they'd at least add room to terminate Werribee services when they get extended.

The extra width would be for maintenance vehicles, wouldn't it? One path each side.

Someone who knows of such things might be able to inform us...

If you look closely, the footbridge on the right is longer than the footbridge on the left, so the possibility could be that they may terminate trains on the yet to be built side.

Maybe this will show how much space has been left for future tracks and platforms.

That's getting a bit waste full and very costly to Install and maintain.

Terminating Wyndham Vale trains would probably run empty Into the train stabling yard after off loading their passengers, this keeping the line clear.
Same thing In reverse for trains forming a local Wyndham Vale to Melbourne service.

Really what would be the chance of a terminating local train getting In the way of at through train service ?

Geelong may end up getting a service every 20 minutes and Wyndham Vale every 20 minutes.
That would be only like a train through Wyndham Vale station every 10 minutes.

Geelong may have a few flagship services that run express all (or most of the way) to Melbourne and back, but there Is still plenty of room for them to run through Wyndham Vale station.

I'm not sure what to think looking through the official fly-through videos and images.

Ideally there would be three platform faces with the centre serving Werribee - but that area opposite the two platforms looks like dead space.

The  RRL  corridor reservation (width)  allows for total 6 tracks in future .  2 X RRL  South Western  (VLP),  2 x  Metro,  and 2 x sg  ARTC  Interstate .

IIRC  the original  concept plans allow for ultimately 4 platforms at Wyndamvale  with cross platform  interchange  between Up VLP and Up Metro &  Down   Metro & Down VLP  trains .  West Werribee  Junction ultimately becomes a triangular bg junction with the existing Metro Werribee electric service extended initially to at least Wyndamvale .

Where do the 2 SG ARTC tracks fit ?

I assume the future alinement for these tracks has been shifted to the proposed Outer Ring Transport corridor from Little River to Beveridge
