Alco 845 to Stramranger?

I attended the March National Railway Museum meeting on the 28th, while I was there, someone mentioned that Alco 845 (currently stored in Melbourne) has been purchased (or donated) to Steamranger.

Not sure if this is true though, I've sent Steamranger an email.

I hope so Smile It would be great for them to get an 830

It would indeed. Imagine 845 coupled to 958, hauling a special Southern Encounter with at least 8 carriages up the grade out of Mount Barker, would sound awesome. Smile

A mustard pot 830 would be nice. One question: would it be prudent to ask if the NRM may have approached PN about acquiring poor old 833, which is more or less abandoned at Cootamundra? It'd make an ideal static museum piece. Just a thought.

Any update on this ?

That's a good sign, if they weren't then they'd have given a clear 'no'. Sounds to me like something's going on, good work to the guys at Steamranger if they do indeed have 845 (or any other 830 for that matter)!

That's promising to hear. Does Steamranger have a set of broad gauge bogies to swap underneath 845 which would currently be on standard gauge?

My understanding is that the NRM are taking the necessary steps to acquire an 830 for the collection.

It won't be 833 though.

Yep as per google maps 833 looks pretty abandoned, wonder what condition she is in mechanically?

Can be seen via Victoria Parade in Cootamundra Smile that would be something to add to the collection..... I need more room!

Any info on the transfer from Dimboola or is this just a rumour?

I spotted 845 getting towed behind a TL yesterday (Tuesday) with the secret standard gauge carriages, as listed in the other thread.

If this is 833, it  looks a mess, has been for over a decade.....

Found this using Street View. It does look to be quite a mess. How long has it been languishing there? Is there any hope of it being resurrected?

It was there  for so long I do not know myself. I started to go to Wagga Wagga in 1993 and since then have seen it there when visiting Cootamundra after the miniature RR weekend at Wagga Wagga in November. At least 1+ years I guess.

In the Steam ranger newsletter is says that it will be transferred to Talem Bend in late June/ July and then onto Strathlbyn  by road where it will be put onto broad gauge bogies.

833 has been in the current spot since approx 2008, when it was moved from the southern end of loco to the current position. I believe it was placed into storage when ATN finished up and PN took over.

That's good news to hear that Alco 845 will soon be transferred to Steamranger.

Does anyone know what's happening with the ex broad gauge stonie loco's ? Surely 1 or 2 of GWA's 830's would be ideal for steamranger or NRM?

845 was just brought in to Tailem Bend by TL152 along with 2 other TL's (I think the Seymour owned ones).
