Hopefully the tracks don't buckle down that way coming into another heat wave, the last thing we need is another train in the dirt while the Mitcham grade separation is taking place.

No trains to Frankston last night in peak. Just got kicked off the 7.13 from Seaford to Flinders at Cheltenham due to a dud train. (Defective air con apparently in 652m).

Seaford rd crossing was closed for a few hours last night too.

No trains to frankston past carrum due to a fire at k'nook. No air con on my train either.

Looks like quite a few lines are out of action this afternoon.  Kind of predictable really.

The Metro website has crashed too.

Not a great day for Metro and hopefully they had some extra buses on standby with the Mitcham and RRL shutdowns. Today the Sandringham line between South Yarra and Elsternwick, Craigieburn between Broadmeadows and Craigieburn, Cranbourne/Pakenham between Westall and Cranbourne/Berwick, South Morang between Keon Park and South Morang as well as the Altona Loop were all suspended at times during the day.

Latest Metro trick a minute ago shows Craigieburn on the 'picture page' as 'suspended' but 'good service' on the detail page. Werribee shows a similar disparity.
Gave up after that as should Metro.
Metro and the government owe the travelling public a major apology for the shambles that has been this week.

Tried to edit the above. At 1512 the above is till the case where shows 'suspended' in one place and 'good service' in another but to compound the picture there is a third location with the following message:

The line is suspended between Broadmeadows and Craigieburn due to a grass fire approaching Craigieburn. Trains have resumed running between Essendon and Broadmeadows in both directions. Replacement buses will continue to run from Broadmeadows to Craigieburn. Please listen for announcements or speak to customer service staff for more information.

No mention between the city and Essendon!

On Wednesday passengers got told to get off Frankston bound trains (in peak) at Carrum.

On Thursday morning, people were saying they didn't hear the voice over on the train and stayed on. They made it through to Frankston.

On Thursday afternoon Metro Notify was saying to get off at Carrum due to the fire, with "buses being organised", I thought "stuff this!" and stayed on. Driver was telling people to stay on but that it wouldn't be stopping at Kananook.

Pity if you didn't hear the Drivers update and looked at the App message and got off at Carrum and stood around in the heat waiting for a bus that was never coming.

The Metro Mouth:

"The trains, they need to cool down at night and they are just not getting down to the temperatures that we need to have them cool down and have those air conditioners down to their normal daily starting point," Mr Hoare said.

Do these people really believe the information that they give out?
Do they stop and think what they are actually saying?

On the same scale as a passenger who complained to me about the heat while standing in the open doorway of a comeng with perfectly good aircon. Too much work for him to push lightly on the door handle to close it.

Sounds like the mentality of people who complain about packed trains, but they cluster around the doors instead of moving down the isles which are empty...!

Overhead problems bw Newmarket - Essendon this afternoon. My train tripped through the signal at Newmarket, moved slowly to the next auto, tripped through that, and just when we started moving again, it lost all power. There's an overhead section break near this auto, so I figure that's why we stopped there. But it was pretty bad, deliberately tripping into a dead section. We were stuck for 20-30 mins, some people bailed, some people smoked on the gangway (lucky it was a Comeng, would have been extremely unpleasant in a Siemens).
We eventually moved on, very slowly, but then the motors, lights, ac etc cut out around the next section break, it seemed like we were only being pulled by the lead motor into Ascot Vale, where I got off. Then saw all the pantos except the lead collapse, doors beeping continually, most lights + ac off... The pantos eventually went back up again and it seemed to move on ok.

We weren't the only train affected, there's some pretty interesting replies to this Metro tweet:

esp "pax stranded on a peak loaded train with doors open on a railway bridge, over a road & live tram overheads = big risk.", "Yes you have a power issue... Train is no longer a train"

Hey, at least nothing came up through the floor....

There was chaos on the up Craigieburn this morning too. Basically it's been a shambles since Christmas.

There was a set stuck at Mordialloc two days ago. Frankston bound trains were being switched onto the other platform so that passengers could get off.

Overhead was apparently brought down at Laburnum last night, with Lilydale depot's buses doing the rail replacement.

More to come may be the understatement of the day!

Merto have had a great day today. In addition to the above;

No trains beyond Bell due to Car v Train at Reservoir
No trains between  Dandenong and Berwick due to fatality
No trains between Blackburn and Lilydale and Bayswater due to a truck stuck under the Warrandyte Road bridge in Ringwood.

Frankston line has trains banked up to Highett due to a signal fault at Cheltenham. Nearly an hour into the trip to Frankston from Flinders. I think its going to be easily take two hours at this rate.
  ewokracing Locomotive Fireman

Annnnd trains on the Frankston line passing through Cheltenham have ground to a halt.

Have been stuck at Moorabbin for 15 mins. Looks like another long trip home.

Major shutdown planned for the Easter Break on the Cranbourne/Pakenham lines between Dandenong and Oakleigh, due to the Springvale works. This will include all day Thursday which is a normal working day. Metro will need every spare bus and driver under the sun to cover the peak services, which will prove difficult seeing as most bus companies will have school runs during the morning peak. To make things worse, 11 train services in the morning peak from Oakleigh to the city are not shown in the timetable for Thursday-week. Tough love if you can't get Thursday off work..
