I know
They only work by what contracts give them the biggest kickbacks to feathering their nest.

Nah, our bureaucrats aren't even the slightest bit corrupt. They're just unthinking and have minds that are utterly inflexible.

During the seven loooong years I worked in the federal bureaucracy, I worked out that the main concern of the bureaucratic mind is following the "correct procedure" and things like efficient use of money or any outcome to the benefit of the wider community are relatively insignificant and of much less concern.

I went there yesterday and it looks as if they've almost finished installing the platform face.
There's plenty of prefabricated concrete pieces there and quite a few trucks coming and going - probably taking soil away.

Is it just me, or is that link not right, all I see is it trying to load.

I've edited it a few times and it still doesn't work.

Maybe this link will work.

Thanks Gauntlet - interesting - I tried to link it too, came out HUGE in the preview, but still loaded like yours. Maybe PB is acting up when it creates the link. Lots of action in the 6 weeks since I took my photo.

I wonder what they'll do with all that sand.

Fill that platform with it maybe?
Someone here would probably know, with the new concrete fronted platforms, do they leave them hollow or fill them in before they put the lid on?
  mickamious Junior Train Controller

Jeeez what a stupid design for the platform...
Why wouldn't they just use the standard drawing they have on file and use the same design as the one were using for Kilmore East?!
Money being thrown out the door again!

If the platform Is to have a concrete lid, there Is little point filling the "vaults" with anything (unless someone wants to hide something In them, for the foreseeable future)

Grovedale is being built to the standard format as used for recent platform extensions in many places .  (Kilmore East is a cut back and reface to increase track centres. It would be senseless to totally demolish Kilmore East .)

As at Easter Sunday the platform facia is complete, and the coping has now been installed.  Track through new platform has been relaid with concrete sleepers and  reclaimed 50kg rail (where the Warrnambool mainline rail is 94lb CWR).

The new Siding to serve this station will be some distance away just on the Down side of the Anglesea Road level crossing.  From the road interchange adjacent one can make out that new mainline points on concrete sleepers have been installed with a dual control point machine. The earthworks for a long siding appear complete and reclaimed rails have been run out along the mainline presumably to form the siding . (The siding was relocated away from the station following consultation with local residents .)

I wonder what they'll do with all that sand.

The Sand is Used to Cover the subsoil drainage to go under the concrete kerb bordering the car park.
It Simply acts as a trap for any water that seeps through the asphalt layer carrying it away into the nearest storm water drainage pit.

I went to Grovedale on Monday, not much has happened since last time.
There's quite a bit of soil up against the back of the platform, plenty of plastic and concrete pipes on site, plus whatever is in the first photo.
Apart from that the biggest change is the increase in mud over the past few weeks.

I took this photo of the siding opposite site of the freeway, but didn't know what it was at the time.  Maybe I'll gett it from a better angle next time.

Thanks.

Signalling is usually the hold up with all these projects as Grovedale includes extension of the Absolute Block , 2 position light signals, and motorized  stabling siding on the Down side of the Anglesea Rd Overpass .(Controlled from Geelong Signal Control Centre).

Given the existing Government promised Grovedale 4 years ago and has just got around to actually starting it  (and then only in a one platform configuration )  , one would think the aim would be to have the Warrnambools stopping there before  November / 14 as then they can crow it is open albeit the six Warrnambools would be totally useless to commuters .  The Warrnambools could stop there once the platform is ready with the Train order working still in place .

One would hope Grovedale offers better passenger ammenities and indoor waiting than Marshall, where a sizeable building is great for the staff but provides no indoor waiting still for the paying passengers .

What is the plan for signalling out of Geelong to Warnnambool.  Will Geelong control only to Grovedale or beyond?

Here's another photo of the siding taken from the road overpass.
It was difficult to get since the sides of the bridge have steel blocking the view except for lots of tiny little holes.

They've added corrugated blue stuff to the platform, it'll end up well below the surface. I have pics of it from much closer.

Will this station be called Armstrong Creek ?

1. Absolute Block with  two position colour light signals will be extended from Marshall to Grovedale and beyond to include the stabling siding on the Down side of the Anglesea Rd overpass .  (This siding is already fitted with 60kg mainline points and a dual control point machine.) Remote control from Geelong Signal Control Panel.

2.  Recently commissioned Warncoort Loop immediately on the Down side of Birregurra is remote controlled from Centrol .

3.  The station which is actually in the suburb of  Waurn Ponds is to be named  Grovedale.  Presumably because the statio which is located in the suburb of Grovedale is named as Marshall .

Marshall was an old railway station on that site, but the surrounding suburb is actually part of Grovedale.  Marshall station is the only facility or area that uses the original old name for the area .

Things don't add up here !

Marshall Station Is In the suburb/locality of Marshall 3216

The new station Is located In the suburb/locality of Waurn Ponds 3216

So no station Is located In Grovedale 3216, If a Grovedale station was provided It would be next to the Surf Coast Highway.

Waurn Ponds Is becoming a well know locality (advertising wise) due to the Deakin University and the growing bulky goods retail outlets along with shopping centre.

The platform has been covered in concrete.
Metal framework for the station building has been put up.
Works have started for what appear to be two roads heading from Tannin Way to the station.
There's a lot more land that has been temporarily fenced off so it's a slightly harder to get photos now.

The siding looks like it's finished.
Several large piles of gravel have been delivered so maybe the car park will be next.

As of  Thursday  31/07/14   the  new station  in the Southern  Geelong suburb will no longer be called Grovedale  (because it is not in Grovedale)  but will be called after the suburb it is right in the middle of  WAURN  PONDS .
