The removal of the Springvale level crossing and the opening of a new Premium Station will greatly improve the daily commute and public safety of thousands of Melburnians travelling by bus, train or car.

Premier Denis Napthine was today joined by Minister for Roads and Public Transport Terry Mulder to officially open the $159 million Springvale level crossing removal project.

“This is another landmark moment in the Victorian Coalition Government’s program to reduce traffic congestion and improve public and pedestrian safety across Melbourne,” Dr Napthine said.

The completion of the station together with the opening did get some airtime on radio.

I do not see any TV news up here but that is not surprising in itself.

Was there TV or print coverage in Melbourne ?

Seems a very quite or soft launch. Was this project a coalition initiative or previous government ?

3AW Rumour file this morning 24/4 states that there are clearance problems with at least one Vline train hitting the platform. No idea if it's true or not.

Went through yesterday on an up V'locity without any problems. I guess that an "N" on a set of cars would be more likely to scrape the platform than a Vlo.Very Happy

Still a lot to do before its finished. On the way back, I got off for a look. The lifts were not finished. Workmen were only starting to demolish the old up platform and building, rails still embedded in the roadway etc.
