Observations (Transperth, A & B series)

Probably the more likely explanation - it will need 4 x 3 car sets just to extend the current timetable from Clarkson to Butler, so it's probably not a good plan to have trains upgraded to 6 cars that can't be sustained after Butler opens.

So we should be looking for some longer trains once the 5th set arrives (unless of course they start moving the A sets back on to the other lines first)
"Northmetro"

The 22 on order's still insufficient, need another 22 on top of the current order, we should be looking at 9car trains for the C series to cater for growth.

Actually it was a 4 car A Series failed at PUG, a 6 cars B series was needed to push the A series out of the way. Driver couldn't reach some of the valves to set up for propelling in the tunnel, don't know what happened afterward, B series got it out of the way eventually.

Yep, A series failed. The B class tried to push it up the platform but failed. So the train was "evacuated"; although the first carriage of the B set was already at the platform, so patrons just had to walk the length of the six car train to the platform. Apparently the underground was closed so that the stranded passengers could move on the platform and get to connecting trains. As soon as we were evacuated, the A series just started and slowly drove off.

A little problem with a pantograph yesterday afternoon somewhere around Currambine shut down Joondalup to Clarkson about 3 hours earlier than planned. I presume Nowergup depot must be looking very empty and all other storage sidings rather full.

Driving along Mts Bay Rd today and got surprised to see a 6 car A set trundle south over the Narrow Bridge. Im assuming it was one of the shuttle trains to do with the Freeway Bike Hike.

Nice sight, but no camera

Yes spotted this consist heading North on the Joondalup line near Warwick, then later heading South over the Mount Henry Bridge later the same day.

Does a 6 car consist fit most stations on the Joondalup/Mandurah line?

The fremantle line is in a bit of poo at the moment... Passengers were stuck on a stalled train for 45 minutes this morning, apparently an overhead wire was brought down. Services will remain cancelled through the afternoon peak. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-24/perth-train-stall-strands-commuters/5341012  http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/ServiceUpdates/ServiceDisruptions/tabid/128/newsid563/3995/Default.aspx

Not sure what the state of deliveries is but the 0803 from Clarkson has been 6 cars instead of 3 for a few days now. Perhaps some Transperth people do read these posts.

Strangely though, the main reason for overcrowding is the number of school students, so interesting that the change happens in time for the school holidays!

Second generation B sets 88 & 89 have been retrofitted & upgraded to test compatibly with the new third generation B sets thus being renumbered to a four digit B set as a consequence "4088- 6088- 5088", B set 088 was seen in service coupled to new B set 095 the other day, B set 089 was coupled to new B set 096 not too sure as to how well they're working but it'll be interesting to see go how it all goes

A failure on the Armadale line at Welshpool has resulted in rail replacement bused being organised. Trains are being turned at Kenwick under rule 5 and some stranded trains are running on the opposite main (up trains running on down main)

So THAT was the technical issue that cancelled services from Perth to Maddington including the entire Thornlie line!

I was caught in it, the A set at Cannington station was fully powered down, including it's pantograph being lowered.

Nasty! How long was the wait for the bus?

Luckily not too long! Only about 10 minutes. I was also lucky to get on at it's first stop, as 3 stops down the bus had to stop accepting passengers. They resorted to using hired buses, there were coaches going along picking people up.

Sounds about right. They did the same thing when they had to shut down the fremantle line. The majority of rail replacement was hired buses

RR was mainly done by Swan even Karrinyup sent a bus out to help, private charter buses were horizons and bus west

B set 093 has been renumbered and reconfigure to work with the newer third generation B sets so that's three second generation B sets that have been reconfigured and renumbered to a four digit B set for compatibility with the newer third generation B sets they are sets 082, 088 & 093. B set 093 was seen coupled to set 097 I think it was

Does anyone have any accurate updates on the deliveries of the third batch of Bs and getting them into service?

Also progress on the conversion work on the second batch?
  thewaratahtrain Chief Train Controller

I have a parliamentary copy of the delivery schedule for the new third generation B sets (not saying how I got it) sets 098 & 099 are meant to have to entered revenue traffic today, all of the second gen B sets should be completed by the end of the year so far sets 080, 082, 088, 090 & 093 are all upgraded four digit B sets, set 0100 is now up at Nowergup railcar depot getting seats & signage fitted for some bizarre & unknown reason set 0100 spent 7 weeks in Midland railway workshops, once all the second gen B sets are overhauled all the original first gen B sets with the green destos are expected to be overhauled for compability with the second & third generation B sets that's meant to be happening with the next two years, set 0100 should enter service in late August
