First, my apologies to anyone trying to get decals at this stage, I am pretty well 24/7 CLEARSPAN TMTEX at the moment.

As stated in an earlier post, the complete listing of exhibitors is on the Darling Downs Model Railway Club Inc. website along with a $2.00 downloadable discount voucher. 2014 CLEARSPAN TMTEX

With only three sleeps to go, things are really getting busy, tomorrow 'Thursday' we mark up the hall and some exhibitors will bring their displays along in readiness, Coff's Harbour, Coorparoo, Little Plain and Cobra siding being some. Although not the accepted set up day, we do like to accommodate special needs to make it easy on the exhibitors.

There is a vast variety of scales, gauges and prototypes as well as the additional hobbies such as Model Cars/trucks/Tanks etc, Slot Cars, and Radio Control Drift cars (the latter will be running all the time for your entertainment).

The Craft section has been expanded as well and the Kids activities include colouring in, face painting and DVD's. The Colouring in Competition takes a different direction this year with "Your Inspiration at Home" being the sponsor, unique prizes that are to encourage child/parent participation are being awarded (Mixing bowl/measure/Pizza Cutter/whisk/chocolate flavour/pizza flavour etc, something the boys and girls can enjoy doing, as the end result is delicious food).

With AR KITS, Gwydir Valley Hobbies, J J Hobbies, Wuiske Models, PGC. Black Diamond, Southern Rail and many others covering different hobbies as well as trains, everyone will find something they like/need/want.

All up, the number and variety of exhibits is greater than we have ever had before.

A late entry is a 1:43 Diecast model car Trader "Forrest Collectables.

There are ten Family Passes to the Ipswich Workshops to be won over the course of the weekend.

Saturday 31st May 9am to 5pm, Sunday 1st June 9am to 4pm.

Don't forget to collect a FREE copy of Model Railways in Australia and a treat for the children on the way out (while stocks last).

Railpage members, sign the Railpage book for a chance to win a 2014 CLEASPAN TMTEX Wagon, HO 'American or Australian', N scale American.

And please, if last years winner would please look me up, Your prize awaits (records were misplaced).

Look forward to seeing you at the 2014 CLEARSPAN Toowoomba Model Train Exhibition.

I am pleased to advise that the 2014 CLEARSPAN Toowoomba Model Train Exhibition is all systems go, due to an unfortunate accident involving Jeff Rosenberg, the All Gauge N scale layout and Chloe Rosenbergs layout are non starters, we wish Jeff a speedy recovery.

A couple of relocations and swaps of positions have occurred, often the case with slight errors in judgment during the floorplan layout (as in I stuffed up some measurements), but everyone is set up and raring to go.

We have a good variety of layouts, retailers, craft, other hobbies and kids activities.

Hope to see you at the exhibition, 9am to 5pm Saturday, 9am to 4pm Sunday.

Rain, Hail or shine, the trains will be on time.

Thanks David,

I think I may have spotted you at one stage, but I was kept pretty busy most of the time.

We were very pleased with how things went, especially as I had made a drastic boo boo in the plan and we had to do a fair bit of fiddling to avoid having exhibits outside the hall, in the canteen or on stage.

Full benefit goes to the exhibitors, without their support and dedication, we wouldn't be able to present such a show.

The 2014 CLEARSPAN TMTEX is now over.

I would like to thank all the exhibitors that made the event the success that it appears to have been, I have not heard any derogatory comments, so I will assume that everyone's expectations were met.

Attendance was up this year by about 25%, this, by all accounts will make the event feasible for next year as attendance had been on a slow decline, some new avenues of advertising were undertaken this year as well as the introduction of other hobbies and craft interests.

Many thanks to the people that did attend, it is your attendance that also assists in making the event sustainable, make no mistake about it, this is still a country show, but it is not inexpensive to put on, if we are able to sustain at least a gradual increase in attendance, the future of the event is far more secure.

We are always open to suggestions/comments by all that attended, be they exhibitors/enthusiasts or general public, feedback, whether positive or negative, is the only way for us to correct any problems and/or know what we are doing right or wrong.

I must admit that we had a very kind weather pattern, I had booked the good weather for the weekend, but sometimes these weather bookings can go awry, on this occasion though, it all went our way.

We received requests from some other hobbies for next year and the craft stalls present all wish to return, as do, by all accounts, the railway fraternity.

Once again, many thanks to everyone involved.

Thanks for sharing the videos, looks like you enjoyed yourself.

I have heard many 'hearsay comments', none derogatory, though it would be interesting to know from modellers, public and exhibitors if we are on the right track.

With more different hobbies approaching us, we are attempting to cover more aspects of a hobby nature.

Toowoomba, although a fairly large inland City is still limited in just how many model railway only enthusiasts we can attract and it was becoming increasingly hard to attract patronage for the show.

This year, the numbers through the door were up around 25% over last year, we did a few things different, what got you to go?

When I drove in, I didn't realy see a lot od model railway signs. I asssume this was  also council restricted. One thing you haven't got is a lot od drive by interest, one factor that could increase numbers.

David,

I would assume you came in from Brisbane, unfortunately the placement of signs is restricted by Council, we are only permitted to put out 20 and they must follow some strict ruling in design and placement and the main entry to Toowoomba from Brisbane is one of those restrictions.

On the other hand, many locals commented on how well sign posted the event was.

The likes of emails, forums, facebook, media etc were fairly heavily used and we did distribute 31,000 fliers by Letterbox distribution.

We looked into television advertising, but the costs far outweighed any percieved return value.

Drive by is difficult to assess due to the showgrounds location as there is limited traffic just driving past.

In regards to the signs-I am sure I saw at least 6 or 7 of those on my way to the show and travelling to my Sons place at Middle Ridge
I was impressed with the clear logical art work and the attention grabbing factor.  My Son had even mentioned that he saw several and was aware the show was on

I have always held the belief that roadside signs should be as brief as possible, they need to hit you in the face and make you 'want to know more', I also believe they are safer for the motorist and are less likely to upset the authorities, our club logo, the venue and date is really all the mind can absorb as you drive by, I don't even bother trying to read a complicated street sign, it is too much for the mind to take in.

Especially with my limited senior download speed.

How about some hands-on items:

A layout for visitors drive trains, using a recent technology controller.

Visitors participating in constructing a layout (many hands make light work). Show the progress on the club website so all participants can see the weekends progress.

Your suggestion?????????????????????

Jim Forrest was doing just that with his N scale Forrest Valley, there was always a crowd in front of the layout operating trains.

I don't know what operating system was being used, but Forrest Valley won the Children's Choice award and came second in the People's Choice.

Having visitors get their hands into building a layout is a good idea, but you have to have the resources and person power to be able to pull off such a project, there were clinics showing how to do things and the presenters were quite happy to discuss what they were doing.
