If there's bunting up, orange vests and machines on site at Millswood, is this for the station refurbishment, or are they fixing the pedestrian walkway across the Goodwood Road subway?

I have a selfish interest in what they're actually doing because I used to use the Goodwood Rd walkway all the time.  It's been a long diversion for me since they fenced it off and I thought they were planning to fix it fairly quickly.

Of course the best outcome is they're working on both, but I won't get my hopes up!

The work being undertaken there is most definitely station work as some minor construction work has already begun on the station platform.

Wow, install a TSR to slow the Belair train down to fix a platform to open the platform and remove the TSR to even further slow the train down... Oh yeah, I cannot wait...

No I wont be using the station as I don't live along the Belair Line (I live along the Seaford Line if it matters) the only time I get out at stations not on my line is when there is somewhere I need to go to or Im at the end of the line and wanting a return back to the city.

I thought the only white elephant he used was the Grange line.

Just what we need - another station only opened to satisfy the egos of a few residents who can't walk to a bus stop on Goodwood Rd.

True that, but if this trial is a dismal failure then I would say they would get in quick to remove the old platform or platforms to stop these trials and let people indeed walk to a bus stop on Goodwood Road. All it really is is someone's pet project that they don't really want to do but are forced to do. Meanwhile a open station somewhere that needs an upgrade badly and there are quite a few goes without because of this trial.

It is not like the area does not have any PT at all, if anything it really is over supplied to some extent!

Firstly, apologies for my mediocre phone photo - looking along the platform, taken on the weekend.

It's not clear what they are doing but I wonder whether they are going to raise the platform.

The galvanised posts are in holes, maybe 3-4 metres apart. They appear to be 1.5-2 metres back from the edge.
Each post has two lugs near the top.

The nearby pedestrian walkway (behind the camera) has been rebuilt at night with what look like recycled plastic planks mounted on new galvanised beams.

Bill.

This upgrade is a waste of money.  The money could have been better spent on the frequency of better services, the people at Millswood have many services to choose from unlike the people in the "Mitcham Hills" we relay on the train and an hourly service is a joke, the money spent on this upgrade should have been spent on a higher frequency.  Adding Millswood makes this already slow service even slower.

Good news.  Do some work at Millswood and whack in a TSR.  Fair enough.  But nothing has happened at Millswood for at least a week and the TSR is still there.  I don't have a problem with Millswood being reopened aside from the extra two minutes to or from Adelaide.  But why do I need to catch the Zeds going past Millswood when there is nothing happening and nobody there?

I wouldn't mind being the Millswood station master, Heaths station would be the best in the whole wide world. Very Happy

Heath, there was a station called Heathfield. If you can persuade the Government to extend the services back to there again, and appoint you as the station master then you'd be flabbergasted!

Don't get too excited by it, it will just be another very basic bus shelter station of which there are tens of them in Adelaide.

If you can't hold your excitement, there are plenty of very similar stations in Adelaide already existing of which you may not have already been to. Have you been to say North Haven, or Nurlutta? Maybe give one of them a go.

Some people need to get a life.

Some here are very critical of the reopening.

Let's give it a go. I am sure that it will not be much value to local residents but rather serve Tabor college students and have some transfer to/from buses on Goodwood Road by those travelling to/from beyond ARS.

If Heath wants to agitate for a cause, how about a rail/tram interchange at Goodwood with the city tram extended to the interchange?

Given that the meaning of heath is barren wasteland, this could be quite appropriate.

I have said it many times in this thread, other threads on this site, other forums and Facebook. They should have spent the money upgrading Torrens Park, from scratch. Knock the whole thing down at start with a new platform. But no, there is still that Mechano set of a station there. They couldn't be bothered fixing it properly, just got a few bits of steel, bolts and spanners to raise the platform. Then make trains stop at the wrong end.

Instead, a station that was closed 20 years ago for pathetic patronage (double digits per day, I have been told) is mysteriously reopening. Really, it should be been demolished, along with Hawthorn and Clapham when they rebuilt the line in 1994.

Well I am against it being reopened and spending money that could have been used elsewhere on the system. However if it does fall dismally on its face it will at least prove that it is not needed at all though so this may be a good thing. One must remember that a lot of these stations were put in well before the car became common place in most homes and well before bus services got extended outwards in the urban sprawl. So removing it in the first place was the thing to do. I just hope that if it does fall flat on it's face that it is all quickly removed platform and all and the other platforms are also demolished to stop this kind of waste of money further up the line there!

I must agree with steam4ian that a tram/train interchange is needed at Goodwood station to get seamlessly from one to the other though!
