This was a junction station on a now closed line. The station had a turntable. Three other stations within 30 track miles also had turntables.
Where was the station?

This was a junction station on a now closed line. The station had a turntable. Three other stations within 30 track miles also had turntables. The branchline from our station was closed as a result of the post-war increase in road transport, thus seeing the end of one of the turntables. Another turntable was a relic of old traffic patterns, and was removed in the early 60's. The two that remained were used Mondays to Saturdays by separate roadside goods services.

Where was the station?

Gee, Koroit gets close.  It's a junction on a closed line, which had a turntable, and there were tables at Port Fairy and Warrnambool Kerang is 35 miles away though. Perhaps Penshurt has a turntable when the short-lived line to Dunkeld was open?  That's very close to 30 miles from Koroit.

Although there was a rail connection between the two remaining turntable equipped stations, from at least the 1950's there was no direct service between the two.

Not Clarkfield,  Everton, Jeparit or Koroit

Maffra? Branch to Briagolong with a turntable there, plus tables at Traralgon, Sale and Stratford.  Hmm, that's four other turntables within 30 miles, and your clue about direct service doesn't apply.  Back to the drawing board methinks...

May I throw a cryptic answer up as a potential clue, if correct that is?

May I now be part of a large rail trail?

Tallarook? Turntables at Wallan, Seymour and Yea. But again missing direct connection...

You have the correct answer duttonbay. The turntables I referred to were at Maffra, Briagolong, Stratford and Sale which were within the 30 track miles.

Over to you for another challenge....

I only checked Traralgon now - is 32¾ miles, so outside the 30 mile range.  Although a junction on a closed line should narrow things down substantially, that one took a bit of finding - and I didn't realise there was a turntable at Stratford before doing some digging.  Good question.

I shall be back with a question shortly.
  duttonbay Minister for Railways

I guess "shortly" has expired by now.  Carrying on with the turntable theme, but taking the opposite tack. There are likely to be multiple answers - I have one in mind. More clues will follow if necessary:

This station is more than 25 miles from the nearest turntable

There are rather a lot of them, especially nowadays. Please elaborate to make this question viable.

Ahh. Very good point Rodo.  My brain does tend to be stuck in the past. Let's try this:

In the "between the wars" era, this station was more than 25 miles from the nearest turntable

I think this reduces the number of candidates considerably.
