Looking for old software

  CM_01 Beginner

Hi there people, this is CMTheTrainGeek, my account stuffed up so i made a new one.

I have some DVA software that Jonathan Boles made, and i heard that he made some Scrolling Plasma Display software in the early '00s and was looking for it. I found some ancient links on Google+ but as usual they don't work.

Thanks Very Happy

Actually this is pretty interesting. You can ask him directly if you haven't done so already.

Does anyone perhaps have a non malware infected copy of Plasmascreen.exe?

How do you know the file had malware?

Refer to the upper posts that indicate Malware/Virus (I'd rather not risk it to prove it does)

I gave the above file to Jon warning him of possible infection, he will run it on a spare machine to see, and may use it as a future project to bring it back in a new version compatible with newer systems.

Well, it works! Now, how do i create my own files for it?
  TinHare2 Station Master

I put the program through 3 virus and malware programs and it came up clean before I uploaded it so I don't know what the problem is.

You can create your own files by editing the demo.pse file in notepad and saving as another name. You have to take ownership of the directory as it won't let you save to the program directory.

Thanks for digging that up TinHare2. I've had computers lose their marbles on me a couple of times over the years and thought it was gone forever!

Turns out the installer has the source code for it in there too, but it's for a now very-outdated compiler (Rapid-Q). It seems to run fine on Windows 7 but some things will be busted on a modern operating system because of their improved security, such as if it tries writing files into the program folder as you mention above.

A new version would probably be a rewrite either for Java or .NET to be compatible with a modern operating system, probably the former similar to DVA 5.

Java would be better as it would run on multiple platforms.

I reckon Java would be best, for members like myself who have Macs Smile
