ANDY36Y, while the Jumbo is progressing well there is still a lot to do. Now that I have managed to get past the biggest hurdle (the drivers cab) I am confident it will become another resin Strath Hobbies kit available through EOTLH. My best guess at this stage is while unlikely, it might be available by the time the AMRE exhibition rolls around in June. If I don't make the June date I am certain it would be available by September for release at, or prior to the SA Convention. FYI, the intention at this stage is to supply the kit with a pair of black beetles, one powered and one just for additional pickups. Decals will be for the early STA version only (not TransAdelaide). Decisions on the interior detail are still being debated as that will add to the cost and delay any release date.
Please keep in mind this is only the 2100 class trailer car at this stage. The 2000 power car would be released another 6-12 months later, once I get my head around what is required underfloor and on the roof.
While I have managed to gather a lot of photos off the web I would appreciate it if anyone can supply detail photos or dimensions of the power cars underfloor and roof detail to help with this project.

This is my most recent completion from the workbench
It is WAGR Buffet Lounge car "AVL 314" as used on the Geraldton "Midlander" and "Albany Weekender" services. Built to 1:64th scale.
Anyway this car has evolved due to some discussions that took place regarding the layout we have been building for the next Model Railway Exhibition in WA over the June long weekend 31st of May to 2nd June 2014. The layout is based on the Midland Railway Co. "Mogumber Bridge" which was a sizable trestle bridge on the line. It is intended to operate MRCo on the first day and then WAGR era from 1964 on the following days.
Discussions had ensued regarding a consist for operating a WAGR "Midlander" and it was recognised that we could muster all the carriages required except the AVL Buffet lounge. After a little research I decided this car could be built reasonably quickly using the sides from a "Railwest Models" AV dining car kit. These sides were to be heavily modified with some windows requiring shifting, new ends including toilets compartments and Doors and then lower sidewalls and upper paneling. All modifications were made as patterns for making rubber moulds. The model you see is the result of the subsequent castings.
It has been about a 7 week project from start to finish and the AVL is now ready in time for use at our Show in June.

1213Driver, your latest creation looks sensational (as always). The quality and detail is top notch, if my focus wasn't on SAR broad gauge I would be very tempted to model WAGR, or SAR narrow gauge in 1/64.
As far as my own modelling goes, the Jumbo is progressing slowly at the moment. With a change of jobs and a few other projects on the go time is getting away from me. The plan at this stage is still to have the kit of the trailer car available by September.
Despite the progress on the Jumbo being slow my MIC is now complete and the kit is available in the shop (EOTLH).
and I have just completed the test builds of the disc signal and will complete the instructions tonight so these will be available as a kit in the near future.
The kit will contain the brass etch and all materials (shown) required to build 2 signals (either ground level or mast mounted) including lighting. However the kits will not be functional. I found them just too small for my patience (re: skill) to stretch that far. I'll leave that challenge to others.

Here's a project I started last Christmas holidays and finally started to get some paint on today.
A Tasrail ZC class English Electric in G scale.
It's still a ways from being finished but it's starting to make progress now. The final identity will be ZC19 in Australian National Green and Yellow.
For those used to seeing HO scale models, this one runs on 45mm track and is 650mm long (just over half a meter).

I have just completed adding glazing to this little locomotive earlier this afternoon. I have had it on the bench now for some time mostly completed, having probably started it at least 18 months ago. Other more desirable projects however got in the way preventing completion of the model until more recently when I decided I should make an effort to finish off some half done projects.
It is a WAGR "Z" class "Drewry" type diesel shunter 1151.
Z 1151 was the first diesel locomotive to enter service on the WAGR in 1953.
The model is a 1:64th scale "Railwest" Urethane cast, body kit mounted on a Bachmann BR 03 mechanism. It has been finished in Humbrol paints with a coat of Wattyl Matt Estapol varnish after application of the "Westland Models" waterslide decals.
For an "S" scale model it is quite tiny, being only 9.2cm long over the buffers, and as almost all space under the long bonnet is taken up with the mechanism weight/chassis, it is fitted with a DCC Concepts small decoder under the short hood with 2 stay alive capacitors to hopefully assist with better running than the short wheelbase may allow.

Less than a week to go before the MRSA Convention and I am not quite where I planned to be. The Jumbo master is nearly complete except for some underfloor detail but we have not produced moulds or castings at this stage. Due to this I have painted the master and will have it on display at the convention. The plan is to complete the master in the next couple of weeks which should allow for moulding and casting to occur towards the end of September with the kits being available shortly after.

I finally got around to start detailing my On30 Nas. I was not 100% happy with the smoke box finish, so I tried some stove element cleaner, called 'Hotplate Magic' I once used on a pot belly stove. I got both brands from Bunnings. The finish can be diluted with water, and keep in mind that it never sets, so it can be washed off in future, if required. I am quite happy with the results on 8A and will do the next loco with the other brand, to see if the effect is different. (The untreated loco was fresh out of the box to show the difference, and I will straighten the headlamp when I detail it.)

Wow, impressive work Brimbank Models! I have attempted a version in HO, but the test print didnt work as the program I used was not properly designed for 3D printing, and I am getting used to the new program before I start work on as detailed a project as that.

Peter, when you do get around to doing another attempt of a HO scale Comeng with a 3D printer I'd suggest that you don't do it in one piece. Sectionalise it like a plastic kit as the printer might not be capable of printing a full carriage in one go. Unlike that N scale example which I'd like to see painted, or at least primed as the frosted translucent plastic is making it difficult to see the details.
Hmm... Well, I'd a Trainorama VVBP guards van on mine some time back with squeaky wheels. I found that the brakes were catching with no obvious method of repair, so I just replaced the bogies with Auscision's BX bogies and fitted the left over Trainorama wheels to a Freightline container wagon which needed to ride a fraction higher after installing NEM 362 Kadees.
And as mentioned in the Austrain BS/FS/BSR thread I've recently picked up set SC3 which needed some TLC.
One fix was quite simple: one carriage had a damaged buffer mount which I lightly clamped and applied a drop of limonene glue which sealed the crack.
The other carriage with issues lets see, it has a few: damage to the shell at a.... bulkhead?

And odd damage to the glazing
Out all of that, the missing screw - presuming I can find one - is the easiest to resolve, the shell damage is a maybe fix for me once I can work out how. The glazing damage, it maybe a non-visible section, but it's one of the retaining clips that's no longer there. Meh, I've got some strip styrene, should be able to make a replacement.
EDIT: Retaining clips might be an issue with all these carriages as I picked one up, apparently the wrong way, the chassis fell out.
And an issue other's brought up with these carriages that I thought I didn't have -the brake blocks engaging the wheels - that's present. I applied one recommended fix: Chamfer the rear of the brake shoe, and got a 50% successful outcome. It's now directional! One way no squeal and free running, the other squealing followed by stopping, if propelling the carriage by hand.

To go with my Haskell Nas, I decided to detail the VR rolling stock I built many (many, many) years ago.
Believe it or not, there are two packs of Bachmann cows inside, along with assorted herbs and spices to indicate hay and droppings...
bit of a waste considering it is all almost invisible and this is better lighting than I can expect on the final layout...Oh well.

So, because a Eureka 38 is a bit out of my range at the moment, I'm looking to do a basic restoration on a 35 year old Lima 38, because why not. One issue I do have that the siderods have developed a case of rust. Any ideas for cleaning it off?

I had a bit of a modelling flurry recently with an aim to complete some unfinished projects started some time ago. So here below are 2 of those projects.
WAGR "Dd 592" 4-6-4T is one of my own kits - this is a variation to the Dm loco previously posted. Its on a modified mehano mechanism fitted with a TCS WOW sound decoder. All that remains is to fit a cab crew and window glazing.
This one is a Railwest WAGR "G" class 2-6-0 whitemetal & brass kit which I purchased as a built model from a collection about 18 months ago. G 233 was in a poorly condition and needed some work to bring it back to a condition worthy of a place amongst my other models, so it has been stripped, repaired, detailed, repainted and fitted with Dcc.

This a Sn 3.5 model of the WAGR Y class Bo-Bo diesel locomotives built by British Thomson Houston of UK and introduced in 1953 as the WAGR's first Diesel Electric locomotives. Intended for mainline use, they soon were relegated to short line and shunt duties.
The model is a Urethane kit from Railwest Models and is on a Bachman mechanism fitted with Tsunami sound decoder.
I have just done the last paint touch ups and need only add the couplers now.
Here below is a shot of 1115 with some stable mates.
The Y were renowned for looking very tall and ungainly particularly when seen from the end.
