Hay/George Sts Intersection

Not sure if this has already been covered, but . . .
What kind of connection will be provided, if any, at the above intersection?
In another place, a Grand Union junction has been suggested. I wonder if the available space would allow this.
Why not have a roundabout? This would require much less overhead, and be just as versatile. It would also be able to function as a turnback for trams approaching from any of the four directions.

Grand unions are more compact than round abouts. Balaclava Junction in Melbourne shows just how small a grand union can be. To put in a round about would require demolishing the buildings on each corner, additionally, with Central station so close why would a turnback be needed and why wouldn't a cross-over work?
