    Hello Miktrain,

    I checked the page and everything seems to be OK with 3 different browsers and several AV packages. It is probably false positive form BitDefender. May be there is an option to send the link for check to their support staff or to add an exclusion.

    If you want to download latest SCARM version 0.9.20, just google for it and select a mirror downloading site other than SCARM webpage, like softpedia.com for example. Hope this will help.

    UPDATE >>> http://www.scarm.info is now removed from the suspicious websites blacklist of BitDefender. You should be able to access it now without problems.

    You can always check the website and the installer for viruses against VirusTotal free service - http://www.virustotal.com 🙂

    Thanks for this program.
    I've recently bought a considerable amount of Bachmann E-Z Track so I can play around with layouts and keep it mobile for when I move around while travelling.
    SCARM has been a great help. It is very intuitive and easy to learn quickly. It saves me a lot of trial and error deciding what track I need to purchase to modify my layout.

    Yeah, that helps, it does not complain now but I disabled BitDefender to let me download the program a few days ago and had a little play. I quite like it, there were a few things that I had trouble with to begin, but with a bit of experimenting and then doing what no one likes to do "read the instructions/help files" it all started to fall into place. When I get some more time I will have a more serious run with it. Nice small download, I think this will be a popular program. Keep up the good work.

    I have had time to play and in doing so have made a small list of things to add/change to make it even better

    It would be nice if the paste function did not paste on top, it is ok for one item but if you want to copy a yard or similar arrangement for use elsewhere you have to individually pick all the parts to move which defeats one of the great things about CAD.
    Can you make it paste to the mouse but floating so that a it can be aligned and then a simple left click will drop it?

    While moving both the the scroll and zoom are disabled which means a long move requires:
    Zoom in, select part and set to move
    move to a place on the current screen where you can find it
    zoom out
    scroll but keep the part in view
    reselect part and move close to new location
    zoom in
    select part and move to final spot

    The standard in CAD is to:
    Zoom in, select part and set to move
    Using the mouse wheel, zoom out, scroll, zoom in, drop

    The ability to mirror a section/yard (and have the points change from left to right/right to left in the parts list) would be handy too

    I'm loving SCARM, but it has a few issues. Why no drag support? It's a hassle to use the mouse wheel to scroll about - support the standard click-hold-drag to move the page!!!

    If I try to duplicate the standard PECO setrack geometry diagram (as seen at http://www.letrainmagique.com/Images_peco/Peco_setrack_HO.jpg ) then the track doesn't fully line up.     With xtrkcad, you could 'force' slightly out-of-alignment tracks to join - doesn't seem to be a way to do this in SCARM?

    Hello Merlin,

    SCARM has drag support. You can just drag-and-drop the tracks from the selection panel to the plot as shown here:



    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2Ehr5xtA8A You can also drag to disconnect, move and reconnect the tracks - just hold Ctrl key and drag the selection.

    Click-hold-drag with mouse wheel is working for move the page, similar to other apps. It is more precise, but may seems inverted if you are already used to do it in the other software, such as IE in example. You can always use arrow keys if the mouse wheel is not convenient for you. Same for [+] and [-] keys for zooming.     And finally about the Set-track geometry: it will fit in the reality without problems, but if you want all the tracks to be connected in SCARM, you will need to slightly increase the default tolerance from 2mm to 3mm. Do it from Tools > Settings > Edit > Tolerances tab. Yes, SCARM haven't "forcing" of the tracks available yet, but this may appear in some of the next releases of the program 🙂

    If you are upgrading to Windows 8.1 and then SCARM starts with error and missing libraries, read the following blog post:

    The problem will be solved in the next update of SCARM.

    It comes with several new features, many updated libraries, some bugfixes and improved functionality. The most important new features are Background image, the Ballast roadbed in 2D and Track Heights numeric input.

    It seems that I missed to post about 0.9.24, but it is now obsolete as the new SCARM v. 0.9.25 is ready and published. It comes with new figures and many new and updated track libraries. Read more about it here:

    SCARM Layout Software 0.9.25 Released

    The new figures are horizontal and vertical cylinders and will allow drawing of objects and rolling stock, like the small steam engine below:

    A feature that might be good to add is a way of setting lengths and curve radius of flex track by a right click menu option, or does something like that all ready exist and I missed how to do it? The same with refining what a length of connected flextrack does, like how anyrail handles it. Or is it yet again something I've missed?

    Hello ARodH,

    You can precisely setup flex-tracks by use of the Toolbox. Open it (from Tools menu) and use the flex track shaping feature from the drop-down menu inside Toolbox.

    You can also edit already placed flex track - select it, then right click over one of the ends and select "Reshape" from the context menu.

    There is an auto-connect feature, introduced in v.0.9.21 (not described in the manual) - see more about it here and watch the short video in the same blog post.

    Fails to run after installation, with a "Sorry Scarm has to close" error message. I've uninstalled it and gone back to version v.0.9.24, which runs perfectly. This is on Windows XP, SP3.

    Just checked it on 3 PCs with Windows XP, SP1, SP2 & SP3 and it runs fine.

    Probably there is something wrong with the downloaded installer or SCARM settings.

    First, you can try the tips described here: Resolving SCARM Installation Issues.

    If that does not help, try to delete SCARM settings folder, as described here: How to uninstall SCARM and then reinstall the latest version.

    In the beginning of November, I launched the new SCARM website, which now has modern look and responsive design and comes with a lot of new and updated information and resources about the program. Go and see it:

    @Erail: Thank you Smile Your initial SCARM layout design looks good. Note that the space between the two tables is quite narrow - if you plan to go there it probably needs to be wider for easy operation.

    @Gremlin: Yes, it is possible that when SCARM reaches v 1.0. state, I will look also for the possibilities to make it available also for other platforms.
