Expansion of AvonLink Service

Transwa's AvonLink rail service which operates beween Northam and Midland will receive nine extra return services per week from December 1, 2014. This will include two extra return services on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, a new return service on weekends and one return service for 10 special events per year. A big turnaround from being on the verge of closure this time last year.

Someone realised the point of running a commuter service is to carry passengers.

Hopefully the is use of the service to maintain it. Would be great if they integrated the Smartrider card for use on this and the Australind services.

The new timetable is now available from Transwa at http://www.transwa.wa.gov.au/Default.aspx?tabid=95.

At the same time as the AvonLink upgrade, the MerredinLink will be cut back to only operate on Wednesday. However there is no new timetable for the Prospector yet to reflect the additional station stops that presumably would be needed on Monday and Friday.

According to the fine print on the back of the timetable, the requirement for booked tickets will cease on the AvonLink and onboard cash payments will be accepted. Additionally MultiRider tickets will be phased out on both the AvonLink and Australind; instead "Transwa will be introducing a new ticketing product in 2015 which will offer frequent travellers greater discounts and improved ticketing options." http://www.transwa.wa.gov.au/Default.aspx?tabid=118&ArticleID=732
