D2's on the route 12 have been common lately thanks to the E class trams.

D2's to West Preston would probably be a good idea if the new timetable didn't split the 112 route when it was jointly run by both Southbank and East Preston, I hear a lot of people are unhappy about it, with the West Preston trams having less trams now, back then in peak hour you get both 112 and 11 and D2's on it. Poor move Yarra Trams.

Z3.127 is running a route 59 service. Apart from Grand Prix weekend, I don't remember a Z3 ever running on route 59 this early in the morning.

No idea whether this counts as an Unusual sighting, but last night (Thursday 14 August) at 7:40pm I saw E.6010 crossing Blackburn Road outbound with the destination indication saying "Test".  That's the first E class I've seen out that way.

They seem to test on route 75 more often than anywhere else. I live fairly close to 75 and I occasionally see Es doing tests there.

The terminus at Vermont South is big enough to hold an E class on one side and still permit the regular service to use the other side while the test driver can indulge at the golden arches nearby.

When the first E was out testing I stumbled across it at the Vermont South terminus around midnight. Panels and seats not fully installed to expose all the internals and loaded with sandbags. As part of acceptance testing I expect it had to travel on all routes - or are there some exceptions?

Their most common testing routes are 59, 75, 86 and 96. They have also done tests on many other routes, including 1, 16, 19, 48, 55, 57, 64, 70, 82, 109 and 112 (before it was split on the 27th of July)

At about 1:00 today I spotted a B2 tram doing a route 70 run (no it was not an MCG tram)

I spotted an out of service A class (243 I think) running down Epsom rd this morning, it turned back at Showgrounds loop. I assume it was driver training in the lead up to both the Royal Melbourne Show, and Flemington Spring Racing Carnival.

Saw one of those new trams (E-Class) being tested in the city last night. Looked great, bright LEDs. Nicer than Citadis.

Will these finally see the retirement of the Z class & A/B class?
