So, how much for the panda.....

Still the 38 class, doesn't someone still offer RTR of them? Nice choice for their first steam engine.

They're obviously O Scale. Look at the XPT on the same shelf.

So, they aren't the unannounced HO Scale models they've been teasing.

Dang, if the 38's are O gauge then I can give 'em a miss. I don't believe that they were previously announced though.
  FirstStopCentral Chief Train Controller

They have a history of dropping the odd O Gauge loco here and there. Last year they
were showing off an O Gauge CEY (looks like it's in the bottom of the cabinet this year
also).

Could just be the PSM version in there to screw with us all.

They have a history of screwing with us.

Their facebook page says "We will have production samples on display of a new unannounced NSW locomotive in HO Scale"  thus the 38's which certainly look like O gauge are perhaps another teaser, or they could well be previews that indicate HO versions painted in those colours, or maybe any number of other models they have not announced.

NSWGR 421 Class Locomotive in HO Scale.
Production samples can be seen at the Sydney Model Railway Exhibition this long weekend. Models are currently in production and will arrive late 2014/early 2015. Order forms are available at the show and from our website later today.

Really am disappointed with their decision to do the 421s. I appreciate a couple of months ago when they ran that "which one to you want" PR exercise that it was inevitable that some day they would do both the 43 & 421, but I really thought there were more deserving NSW diesel locos such as the 442. I would have thought the 442 would have had much more appeal (ie sales) then the 43 & 421 combined. And haven done the 442, this would then lead to the GL etc - even if only the mechanism would be shared between the 442 & GL.

I have no desire to own a 442 but would love a 421 and 43, so I guess some of us are very happy.

Or putting it another way, the GL project currently underway by Auscision could lend some parts to a 442 project. In which case a 442 would be more likely to turn up around the same time as the GL's are ready. (refer blog entry 12/12/13 for GL details)

And hopefully a 700 Class too for the SA (and to a lesser extent Vic) modellers.

Going on that image, there must be tooling for a 421 waiting to go as well.
They couldn't make a decision and turn out a sample that quickly unless both options were pretty far advanced.

I reckon a few of us were thinking along the same line, but just a bit too timid to mention it......

I'm generally pretty easy to please when it comes to loco and rolling stock levels of detail. In that regard I'm okay with the Austrains 80 and 442 class models, despite their "basic/x" nature. I was going to try and tart them up with a kit etc, but can't be bothered.

However, I bought an Austrains 421 last year and even after I worked it over for many hours (altering the body height was the main job), I still wasn't prepared to accept it's shortcomings......so I sold it.

I think I will restrict myself to just one (maybe 2) of these new ones.....but if they decide to do the 80 and/or 442 class/es then I think I'll just stick with the old bangers I have from the Austrains stable.

Roachie

PS: The boys must have been knacked and/or pyssed after the exhibition yesterday, because the Order Form wasn't put-up on their website like they indicated it would be and still isn't at the time I'm writing this. But that's okay.....they must be pretty-well flat out I'd reckon.

Going by the pictures, the white on the ladders is wrong, and partly wrong on the candy colours

What is the difference between Indian Red Austerity version 1 & version 2 as the company calls them? Austerity version 3 is obvious, but 1 & 2 are not.

On version 2 the yellow extends over the cab doors.

I noticed too that the wheels seem a bit bright but production models should be blackened as per description. The samples look great and I'm looking forward to grabbing a couple. But I've spent way too much on rolling stock over the past weekend with the online sale.  Given I have to still put in for a few 48s, I wouldn't have minded if they held off with the 421 till way after Xmas so I don't miss out.

Looking at photos in the Train Hobby 421 Locomotive Profile Book, some locos across all the paint schemes clearly had white ladders while in other photos they are too grubby to tell what the original colour was.

The one area that does need attention is the area around the exhausts which seems far too prominent but I'd be surprised if Auscision aren't well aware of that.

Going by the order form they are $295 each whether I pay now or wait till they get here.  Am I reading the order form incorrectly, or did I miss something?

If there is no discount I won't be rushing into an order.  Might as well play it safe and wait until they get here.

Best regards,
John

John.....you "shoulda gone to specsavers".....hahahaha

My order form definitely states $250- each if paid for at time of order or you can pay $100- deposit now and the balance (ie: $195-) on delivery.

Check the 2nd line of red print, below the list of locos being done (on the Order Form proper).

There goes another $500- out of my savings......they now have over $3,500- of my hard-earned dosh and I'm waiting for the delivery of 15 locos from them (plus 3 of the TOR 48s too).
