Sorry was given wrong info. But is there a way to find out when the sets are on there way? Is there a schedule for deliveries?

Due to issues with graffiti and vandalism it's best the movements aren't mentioned, however that mainly happens in NSW.

So, stop mentioning it.  Heaps of people have given you the hint but you just aren't getting it.

Set 098 in service we are two away from having our 100th electric passenger train entering revenue traffic, so far sets 080, 082, 084, 088, 090, 091 & 093 have all been converted to work with the new third generation B sets

So at least we have the 4 sets that are the minimum necessary to cover the increased travel time to Butler, but at least one more is required if the trains that have recently been increased from 3 to 6 cars are not going to be reduced again. Interestingly the Transperth railcar allocation web page content has been removed at the moment, so I assume this is undergoing revision ready for Butler opening.

The Midland line will return to Platform 8 at Perth from 25th August, to "increase operating efficiency". The timetable will not change.

Set 099 was seen traversing the Fremantle line yesterday one would presume on a test run so she can't be that far off from entering service.

TransPerth release a new comprehensive video about safety around buses and trains for their YouTube, I can't remember the last time I rode in an A set that had transverse 2x2 seating, looks like it was recorded in 2003/2004.

The old perth station signage and the timber footbridge really do age it

Reports of B series with brakes on fire on Fremantle Line. Passengers dropped off at Claremont.

Source: 9News

Wonder if this will have implications for B series running on the older lines, or if it was just an issue with this EMU. I remember hearing somewhere B series had some issues with braking on the older lines.

Other sources (e.g https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/25369573/fremantle-train-in-smoke-scare/) are showing an A set (337). That photo looks like a standard 'stock' photo - it's at Armadale for one thing Wink

That photo is just a stock photo from the media, the B series pictured there is at Armadale on the old platform (Platform 3).

An A series train did have a problem with brakes sticking, (as mouse just said set 37) causing a bit of smoke, due to the brakes not being able to be released, but other than that nothing much happend. AFAIK the train detrained all passengers at Claremont, then continued to Fremantle empty. Must have been a slow news day, it really wasn't that bigger deal.

This doesn't happen often, but is not unheard of. The second last up service to Perth ex Armadale one night had the exact same problem, and it just detrained all 2 passengers at Maddington, continued onto Cannington empty, ran into the siding to allow the last up service to pass, then the driver just gently and slowly drove the train back to Claisebrook.

There is a picture of the actual Freo train at http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/smoke-no-fire-public-transport-authority-denies-freo-train-flames-20141028-11d2if.html

I did see this happen last year around Claremont, a train from Perth was going past Show grounds with smoke bellowing from under the train, I was driving a car along side so I pulled into the car park at the station to have a look.  There were flames from the brakes but after the train stopped staff had a quick look and the train carried on with the brakes working fine.  It does happen, just like you see on the road when a semi trailers brakes lock on and there is tyre smoke as they pull over.

Set 102 is in service. Also saw set 57 upgraded for compatibility with the new sets (and with a new desto), coupled to 099.

By my calculation, if the 3 x 4 car A sets are retained, all other trains could be 6 cars with 56 B sets in service. We now have 55.

Assuming probably 2 are out of service continuously for compatibility conversions, we probably need 5 more B sets delivered to be able to start handing the A sets over to other lines.

They are only running 2 x 4 car A sets on the Joondalup/Mandurah lines, having reduced from 3 sets on 24 November (those services now run with a 6 car). Still running are 2 x 4 car and 6 x 3 car that require replacing i.e. 10 x 3 car B sets still need to be added to have 100% 6 car sets running.

Presumably one of the other lines has picked up some additional capacity with a couple of 2 car services increased to 4 car services.

So 10 more are needed, but 13 are ordered. Do we know what the extras will be used for - frequency increase, running on other lines, extra spares? Or will they be needed when Aubin Grove opens? (Though with a 15-17 minute layover at Butler on the current timetable, wouldn't it be possible to add Aubin Grove in with just a timetable change and no increase to the round-trip time?)
