Nightride route maps?

  invictius Chief Train Controller

I know it isn't a train service, but it's a cityrail service - just wondering, how I'd get some maps?  I'd go on all the buses and mark the routes down on a street map, but I imagine asking the driver "what street are we on now" every 5 minutes would annoy him.  If any of you can say something like "well the penrith service takes the m4/western hwy, apart from when it pulls into stations" that would be great - I don't need to know exactly where it pulls into stations, just which main roads/freeways it runs on...

Cityrail Nightride bus info

While not telling you the excate route by street names you should be able to work it out using a street directory and the info on the site.

The exact route is not published because it's not relevant as long as the bus stops at the designated stops that is provided in the site posted above.

The route the bus takes to get to those stops would be left up to the discretion of the companty contracted to operate them I would say.

I was under the impression that the nightride bus has only just recently started to travel between Mt Druitt and St Marys via the Great Western Highway Question  I do know that it is operated by Veolia now, not Busways anymore

first time I caught the nightrider was 3 years ago ever since then it's always gone via Tregear very time consuming Razz. I havn't caught it since its changed hands to Veolia though (Didn't know it had even changed although did noticed that it was a different bus when I saw it the other night).

Well if its going down the HWY well thats a longer trip as the bus cant turn directly on to Carlise Ave from Beames Ave so really the trip would BE longer by the time the bus goes on & off the Hwy.
I think Veolia have not thought of the distances of each way between Mt Druitt & St Mary's even track work buses follow the N70 route between Mt Druitt & St Marys.
Hopskins, Telfords & Hills bus use this way but the other operators stick to what cityrail tell them to drive.

Good work guys, 2 down.  The ones that are "bus stops at highway" services should be a lot easier to nail down.

Has there ever been plans to expand the Nightride service to beyond the Sydney area, like Katoomba or Gosford or Wollongong, etc?
  Ben_Daui Deputy Commissioner

there is no need to extend them into interurban area's as they have a 24hour train service just look at the time table.

24 hour? For the Mountains The last train leaves Central at 00:18 then there isn't another train the next at 04:03 it used to be ok with the old 01:32 service out of Central but that doesn't exist anymore

Look at the South Coast last train is 00:10 the first 04:48 meaning you basically have to leave the city a midnight.

But it gets worse, Southern Highlands last service Monday to Wednesday is 21:02 the first service in the morning 04:20

That's exactly my point.  I'm sure there is the demand for it, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

Gosford/Wollongong/Newcastle should have a 7-day 24 hour service (atm, only friday/saturday nights), I have no idea why it doesn't extend as far as waterfall (or springwood for that matter) but I dare say the campbelltown service will extend once sinny sprawls out that way and demand inreases.

I forgot about time table changes although if your at Central at 1-4am in the morning 2-3hrs aint to bad to wait for a train I've done it heaps.

Will a nightride bus like the N70 stop at a bus stop on it's route or can/will it only stop at the train station stops? E.g. N70 stopping on the great western highway oxley park between it's my druitt station and st Mary's station set down
Bcoz it pretty much goes straight past my house n st Mary's station is 25 min walk or $13 cab

NightRide buses, like Rail Replacement buses during trackwork, only operate from station to station. They are a rail replacement service, not a local route service and are timetabled as such.

To answer your question, it will only stop at the designated train station stop.

Some may confirm this, but:

Nightride buses will not pick up people at any stops, only stops that is listed on the map. However, Nightride buses may stop along the routes at bus stops if requested in due time. If you ask the driver before the last stop that the bus is scheduled at, and if you ask the driver nicely and as long it is part of the route they is normally going and not diverting it route it may stop for you at your specific location. The location must have a normal bus stop but if you ask and it's not affecting their route and there is a nearby bus stop then you may be able to alight near your location. I have previously caught N40 numerous times from the city, and after the scheduled stop I always ask the driver and most times was happy to stop as long I pointed out where and not changing the route.

That may have been something THAT particular driver decided there and then, but it should in no way whatsoever be expected for the bus to stop anywhere other than designated NightRide stops. It's not a personal taxi service. A taxi can always be arranged to meet you at the station.
