THERE will be 110 additional parking spaces at Ferntree Gully railway station under a re-elected Coalition Government.

Ferntree Gully Liberal MP Nick Wakeling today made the $1.1 million commitment to expand the existing carpark on the station’s western side.

The commitment will bring the number of sealed and lit car spaces at the station to almost 400.

“Better carparking at Ferntree Gully will allow more people in the area to take advantage of public transport,” Mr Wakeling said.

A priority or a token gesture?

Any projects which assist passengers in gaining access to public transport is always good.

It's a priority, and it should not matter which party wins, because it needs to be done.  And FTG is not the only station with inadequate/insufficient parking.

When a political candidate makes a "commitment" like this one, is it really something new, or is it just something which was on PTV's list of things to do anyway?
