They can survey what people want, they can advise that they are going ahead with a project, but they only started accepting orders (paid in full or part) in March 2013.

Others have been accepting payment for projects and holding that money for 6-7 years. If we start adding in the time from when the projects were first announced, then we're probably pushing 9-10 years in some cases.

I think others can form their own opinions.

I am still trying to form some of my own facts.

Yes, I think it is prudent to note the difference between an 'announcement' and 'taking orders', the two being distinctly different (in fact).

The last 7 posts show what a mess of rumours, "I said", "He Said", "My local hobbyshop said" has occurred just because the 'Horses Mouth' can't find 5 minutes to put THE FACTS on their website for their customers (current and future) to read.

This is the crux of the problem. After reviewing the news page, I contacted Trainorama to change my order for the third mustard pot w/ Shrike (836) after understanding that it was no longer planned; the news page gives the indication that only two w/ Shrike 830s are now being produced.

However they assured me that it was still being produced (with Shrike) in the second batch.

The website does say "With the remaining Indian Red, Candy, and Mustard Pot numbers coming in the second shipment expected early 2015.", however this wasn't clear to me when I first read it(or apparently others).

A little more clarity is always a good thing, especially after such a significant passage of time.

And while I don't need weekly updates (which you'll see on some Kickstarters) a little more communication wouldn't hurt.  The News page was last updated in July!

I was in Bob's hobbies yesterday, and I must say the 48's do look fantastic. Up there with the detail on the latest offerings by say Auscision.

I overheard one gentleman on the phone that the 48's will be available on Monday (as mentioned here) with another shipment due to arrive in store mid-late Jan depending on customs. I believe it was a customer on the phone he was talking to so any questions, you can always ring.

Looking forward to the delivery of more modern versions of the 48, i.e Freightcorp blue. With the number of them in existence (once upon a time) it will take a while to deliver them all.

SAR523

The news page with 48cl news was updated on 9th October, although for some its very hard to scroll down on that page to 48cl section, it has the following information in part

The immediate two shipments will comprise of 48 Class Series 1 and 2 units, and two versions of the SAR 830 Class. Whilst, the first phase of the production run will continue with delivery of further ordered cab numbers, along with some previously unannounced liveries to be available for general ordering during the first quarter of 2015.

Regarding the SAR 830 class, I read that & underneath it shows 4 numbers, 2 with & 2 without the shrike all in the Mustard pot colour.  If I read the above snipped page, I would say that TOR are actually doing all previously announced models & they only applied to the Mark 1 & 2 versions or series in their words. The later mark variants being the 3 & 4's are to arrive after the remaining GMs are brought in.
  BIG-BEAR Chief Train Controller

I just think there is confusion with what is happening with the SAR 830 class with a shrike ?

It could just be something simple like whoever you talk too on the phone or get a reply from a email from trainorama might have their own idea's what's going on . Which leads to the confusion .

After talking to them over the last 3 months the plans keep changing . 4 models then only 3 models then talk of only 2 models with a shrike .

Who knows what's happening .

How hard is it to put some facts on the website?

Maybe they don't give a shrike!

Maybe if some here are off Farex formula & able to read, surely to goodness what is said on the TOR website gives the information as to what is going on.

Well going by the string of confusion documented by many posters above, that is clearly not the case.

I have no interest in the ToR model, as I have been unable to even place an expression of interest (let alone a deposit) for the last year or so due to ToR's policy, even though I had the funds ready to do so.

Went to Bob's Hobbies and had a long talk to Bob Cooke himself and the gang who were there. As I were there 48 men in trenchcoats came in and dropped off many boxs. Hmmm. Yes the 48's are here, and a test run as seen by all of a production unit was performed for all staff, and me, to see. Nice and quiet, instruction included in the box (read them)

As per the SA 830, all 3 will be done, and some without (the ones without Bob said were ones with the skrike nicked "apparently"). What number etc and when, well not this year. And since this yeat is not many days really, that means yes they'll arrive early 2015, as they are done in batches ,not as a mega delivery.

And yes they have fielded LOTS of phonecalls and are happy to take a call , if you want to know.

Had a nice time there today, and were kicked out (nicely) when the store closed. They even knew me from Railpage too and didn't charge me extra for the items I bought !!!!!

There might be a website update too, perhaps.

My post was not just or primarilly directed at you, but the way RP has changed the way we can do a reply means that the post that you were replying to is cut out & that person is included in what I have said.

What is shown on the web site is the numbers of the models that are being produced in the first run.  The first run is coming in two shipments, & they are clearly shown in the 48cl news secion,

Those models not in the first shipment will come in the 2nd that comes early in January prior to Chinese New year, with the next run being done later,

TOR had cancelled out some time ago in accepting any new orders or taking money in deposits for the models same as with other projects they had been working on, simple reason was the complaints regarding non or late delivery, that has been well publicised also in the past for some time now.  The distribution of models to all those with prepaid orders or deposits for them has priority in distribution, once all have been sent out, then the will go on sale for new purchases, something I & many have no problems with as those who have been waiting should get their models before others.  In that regard a competitor chose to sell models at Liverpool Exh a few years back before those who had paid for models got their's something not appreciated for the long sufferers in waiting.

I believe that is the policy now with TOR along with others to no longer give advance warning of models they are doing, which was how it was it was for years prior to what we have seen for around the last 10 years.

Bob's website has been updated late today (or tonight, most likely).
The 48 class news now at the top (someone listened) and see the link for the info:
http://www.tomshobbies.com.au/index.php/news

The only question remaining is do we count this as a 2014 release or not?
...some people will get them before the end of the year - but not many.  Not sure about this.

Toby,

If some people get them before the end of 2014 I would suggest it goes down as a 2014 delivery.  The reasoning being that we do not normally count the date for posterity from when the last delivery is made, but from the first.  Up to you though mate.  Whatever seems best to you.

Having read the information from Bob's Hobbies there is a slight change to what has been the urging around here to phone the shop to find out what's occurring.  An excerpt from the new post:

"Now for those of you who are pre-paid 'Mail-out' customers, please read this very carefully: We will be TELEPHONING YOU PRIOR TO MAILING YOUR ORDER! This is so we can confirm your mailing address!

So please, please, please DO NOT ring us - we are endeavouring to process the many hundreds of orders as fast as possible. By you contacting us it will only delay orders and WON'T give you priority. If you are going to be away from home, please send us an email and we'll hold your order until you get back.

It is hoped to finalise all pre-paid 'Mail-out' orders by late January / early February 2015, so please wait until you hear from us. Note: we will NOT commence posting out orders until the Christmas / New Year mail has died down - probably mid January."

The only comment I would make at this point is this....... As I now work as a Australia Post contract driver (ie: I take mail to the smaller towns here on the Yorke Peninsula in SA), I can tell Trainorama right now that the mail dies off INSTANTANEOUSLY from 27th December.

Up until then (ie: NOW) the situation is totally different....I have had to tow a trailer every day for the past couple of weeks to cater for the extra loading in the lead-up to Christmas. Next week I could just about do my run in a Mini Minor!!!!! (well, maybe that's just a wee bit of an exaggeration....hahaha).

Accordingly, it would be safe (well, as safe as it's ever going to be) to post the packages out anytime from 29th December onwards.

Fair points Bill, however, had John added the next line that is shown on the news rings quite true also

Why you ask? Unfortunately many parcels have gone missing during this time or a lot of people are on holidays and are not available to take delivery.

That is in response to the aspect of not finalising or sending them until mid January, at least how I read it.

What I have found though is that while the parcels side of things as well as home mail deliveries still seem quite hectic in the cities until at least end of December, this year with the 4 day closure over Christmas then the break up with New year on a Thursday could affect the overall postal service.

Not forgetting also that other MR companies have promised models out for the Christmas period as well, so a lot of model train stuff could well choke the system.

Yes I consciously cut at that point because I think same way as Bill does.

Anyhow, not a worry if they don't post until after they come back from their holidays.  Been waiting a while now so a couple of weeks more is neither here nor there.

Certified mail was withdrawn maybe 30 years back.  "Signature on Delivery" is more likely what they are offering.

So now we have proved without doubt that if a manufacturer does indeed update their website with the facts,
the people on RP still can't get the message and have to wax-lyrically about what the manufacturer actually meant.

Manufacturer says "The Cat Sat On The Mat"

Poster 1 says "But which mat are they talking about"

Poster 2 says "Maybe there's an unannounced mat that's been... unannounced"

Poster 3 says "Maybe someone should ring the manufacturer to inquire about the mat"

Poster 4 says "Maybe someone should ring the manufacturer to inquire about the cat"

Poster 5 says "I used to work for the factory that made the mats, and they definitely weren't approved for the use of cats"

Poster 6 says "I rang the mat manufacturer..."

Poster 7 says "What did they say?"

Poster 6 is never heard of again

Manufacturer 2 says "Don't sit on their mat, till you've sat on our mat"

Poster 8 says "Are the mats still available on the pre-sat-on price"

Poster 9 says "I thought the mats had already sold out"

Poster 10 says "No the website wasn't clear on that, maybe the cats sold out"

Poster 11 says "I support Poster 4, someone should ring about the cat"

Poster 12 says "I've been offline for a few days, has a cat ever sat on a mat"

In the following weeks, the cat appears on eBay and sells for 3 times it's original price
and the mat is listed as "rare limited edition mat, on sat on for photos" with a buy-it-now
price of $349 with free delivery even though it is still available from the manufacturer.
