RP 3.9 Bugs and Feedback

With the new edit history feature, why not have only the history of your own posts available as a general member and the mod/admins have a permission where they can see everyone's history for flaming, etc.?

Just seems a bit odd being able to look into the edit history of random people's posts.

PS: Really like the Newest Unread for each thread. Disliked having to waste time scrolling back up from the last post to where I was last up to.

Two events awaiting approval. I EDIT AND PUBLISH finding my way to https://www.railpage.com.au/calendar/event/1292/edit and have a screen with only the banner. No content.

My avatar is not showing on my public profile or posts, yet I can see it fine when I view my account info. I can see other users' avatars just fine.

I like the new look; so far, so good.

Like the others, I initially had avatar issues, which I first attempted to resolve by "reinstalling" - for want of a better geekword - the avatar. Since this seemed to have no immediate effect, I read on throught the above posts pertaining thereto.

All is warm & fuzzy in Avatarville now Very Happy

I like the new look and the new features.  The speed for me is a concern.  The railcam pictures which I have been looking at today are very slow to load. Was this the case with the old RP?

Regarding the speed, our production server is old and tired and needs replacing. This was demonstrated on January 1st when it died in the middle of an OS upgrade.

Plans are in place to upgrade Smile

The site is not bad in terms of loading but the railcam images are slow to load. Can this be fixed ?

I can see how to link a Facebook or Flickr account (curiously in completely different places), but cannot see how to link my Google account?

I keep getting a password empty message if I use my full username. Now it let me in as a beginner user "g" - this is bizarre!

...and what is your full username?

I've been getting a "Whoops! Password is empty" message any time I try to log in to my account on RP 3.9 - had to resort to creating an alt here to leave this feedback (left some feedback using the form a couple of days ago, but I don't think it worked)

Regular account is "LancedDendrite".

"Groundrelay" Again I tried but still got the same message as LancedDendrite.

Username "G" worked again.

Seems to work now - any idea what the problem was?

We store passwords in two database columns - the really old md5() hash in one column and a newer bcrypt hash in another. We introduced bcrypt two years ago, and as password hashes are updated to bcrypt the md5 hash is removed. This is because md5 is not a safe and secure hash.

I had slated an update to the password hashing mechanism for a future release which was coded up and ready to go and branched off for the future. This update reverts back to a single column. There is an accompanying bit of code which checks that passwords are valid (eg you can't use your username as your password) and also checks if the stored passwords are empty. In this case it was erroring out if the future password column is empty - a change that shouldn't have been merged into the production branch.

The upside is we're now using a more secure password hashing mechanism a little earlier than planned Smile

Last visit date/time has not updated since RP 3.9 was implemented.

Edit: Also threads marked as read are getting marked as unread again as I read other forums.

That's quite odd, I can't say I've experienced those issues. Confused

Try logging out and logging back in again, continue monitoring the thread read/unread status and report back to me.

When going to access the forums earlier I noticed that RP had logged me out of my account, requiring me to log back in when trying to view the railcams, a minor irritation for me. Worse affected by this was my dad who goes by the username Bonzel on here and also got logged out. However, the system wouldn't let him log in due to the password being deemed not complicated enough (we made it like that so he doesn't have try too hard to remember it). Upon being told this, there was no option to redeem a temporary password in order to change it, and instead we were sent to a blank login screen with the 'not complicated enough' message.

Any ideas please?

As per Greensleaves above, I have been logged out and am unable to log back in as "c3526blue".  Message is "Whoops - Password is not complicated(?) enough".  I tried logging in through Google but Railpage did not recognise my email address - unsuccessful!!  I then tried linking through Facebook and have now ended up with two (2) user ID's.  What is going on?  HELP please!!!

Yours in confusion,

John
