Queensland Election

WOW! What huge swings, especially when LNP had a HUUUGE majority.

It was neck & neck their for both main parties, then ALP had one, then a few more, then it was both on 27 seats each, then LNP was in front by one or two seats.

Ashgrove had a swing towards Labor of 13 to 14%.

Swing needed to change government overall is about 12%.

Now it's LNP 36, ALP 42, GRN & PUP 0, Other 3 ? = 7

Edit: Pauline Hanson's ONP is second in the seat of Lockyer with 27.8%, with LNP 1st with 32.7% at time of editing.

Redland(s) seat with a swing of a huge 30% towards Labor!

Looks as though Newman is gone. ALP coming home strongly.

Not going to do this all night, but LNP 34, ALP 41, GRN & PUP 0, OTHER 3 DOUBT 8

Seems as though the main issue was privatising/leasing assets that Queenslanders own.

Yep, Newman is gone, no matter what party wins now.

In total, now a 13% swing against the LNP.

At the moment, either main party could still win, with 43.2% counted.

Andrew Green is predicting Labor will win 46 seats, but he is still cautious.

The LNP will not win this election on such  small primary vote. Asset privatisation obviously not popular.  LNP treasurer (Tim Nicholls) could also just hold seat and be liley opposition leader.

Can the ALP form Government?

Newman did break a lot of promises since being elected.  So has Tony Abbott,  I wonder what this means for the Federal Liberal Party.

Abbott is in real trouble.  Polling on Abbott will be in the papers tomorrow,

At Bevans, see my edit above.

But let this be a lesson to ANY political leader/party on any government level, SERVE the people that employed you, NOT serve "yourself".

Nuh, surely I must be hearing things, Alan Jones criticised the LNP???

Australia is entering a new era in politics,  Victoria has just experienced it, Queensland tonight and Abbott when the time is right,

The galaxy poll will tomorrow say ALP 57% to Coalition 43%.  Shorten does not need to turn up to work and he will be elected at the next opportunity.

This is not important, but I thought ABC would show LNP as red, and ALP has blue.

PS: I wonder if GRN should be green with a thick red border, ie: a watermelon colour! Laughing

George Brandis is delusional!

Abbott will lead the Liberal Coalition to Victory at the next Federal Election.

@NC People are sick and tired of not getting what they voted for.

In addition to the Qld state election, there's a by-election in the SA House of Assembly seat of Davenport today.

It was a safe Liberal win with a TCP result of 58.1/41.9 in last year's state election, but the provisional TCP result for the by-election is 52.1/47.9 which will shift it firmly into the marginal column and put the seat in play at the 2018 state election. A 6% swing to a rather stagnant fourth-term state government is almost unheard of in a by-election, and it would definitely feel like a rather hollow victory for the Liberals.

Labor ran a campaign almost exclusively focused on Tony Abbott, and it worked.

On a national level, coming close to losing this one will be just as alarming for the Liberal Party as the Qld election, and should see Julie Bishop asking Bill Shorten if she can borrow the steak knives within the next week. The big question is who she will return them to, because there's no way Shorten is electable as PM.

Neither party has a majority.

At 21:28 LNP - 39, ALP 42, OTH 3 ? - 5

I think Labor need 45 to form government.

Andrew Green said that the black seats (the ? seats) he says that most are showing Labor in front.

Now it's LNP 36, ALP 42, GRN & PUP 0, Other 3 ? = 7

Edit: ABC 24 now saying LNP - 30 ALP 39, OTH 3, ? - 17

Looks like they had a mistake, now it's showing as LNP 38, ALP 43, OTH 3 ? - 5

Oppositions don't win elections, govt's loose them and they lost this big time. Especially on the first term and especially after having such a large lead. LNP got in after A Bligh because the people had enough (big time). Clearly what they got was not what they wanted. The exit polls seem to indicate most voters expected LNP to remain, so there was a very large protest vote.

Anna P has 3 years to prove she is not Anna B or she will get the same.
