Installation of a Railcam in South Australia

Ideas: Installation of a Railcam in South Australia

It has been discussed here the advantages of a Railcam in South Australia.  various traffic patterns across South Australia do not necessarily duplicate or rather an unique when compared to the eastern states.

It has been discussed a camera at Belair, even one a the Bed and Breakfast at Mount Lofty seen here: http://www.mlrs.com.au/home.html

My preference would be out at Port Augusta or elsewhere on the line between Port Augusta and Port Pirie.

Any chance a summary of what trains would be expected through the camera?  This would help in deciding to vote.

All AD/DA services
All AP/PA; MP/PM; GP/PG; SP/PS
All trains between Whyalla and Adelaide & Eastern States

And depending on camera location all Pichi Richi Railway heritage services into and out of Port Augusta Station.

So not much then. Smile

How much goes in/out of the workshops there these days? I remember back when 4472 was going to Perth watching them shunting in and out as if they didn't know how to use the triangle.

Depending on location, costs & donations the previous suggestion of a PTZ might be a good idea. That then would leave the question if it was only controlled by Railpage admins (some days mainline, some days workshop entrance) or controlled by Railpage users (extra web interfacing). Based on location might be able to cover both mainline & workshops.

So easy to 'plan' from an armchair. As always appreciate those who are on the ground doing the real planning, setup and maintenance.

I would like to see a railcam at Mount Lofty in the hills.

A camera at Port Augusta would be quite useful.

The Mount Lofty installation in South Australia has been completed with two cameras now online.

The next installation in South Australia is likely to be Port Augusta as planning has commenced and a site which looks viable has been identified.
