Melbourne Suburban Disruptions (Since Metro Introduction)

Major delays across most of the Melbourne network due to equipment disrupted bt lightening storms.

I find it hard to believe that modern electrical equipment in 2014 cannot be designed to be lightning proofed.

As far back as 1909 PMG telephone exchanges had lightning arresters which protected the equipment.

We seem to have gone backwards.

I've watched commuters wait half an hour for a train this morning only to seen again later as they've given, got off the city bound train, caught another train back to where their car is and then go home. Apparently Flinders St is just chaos.

Entire Ringwood group currently halted due to police operations between Heatherdale and Ringwood.

Trains are nearly 20 mins late on Frankston line atm.

No idea what was going on yesterday morning but citybound Frankston line trains were crawling along and stopping at nearly every signal between Cheltenham and Caulfield. Wasn't track works either. One driver went bananas at metrol and you could here him clearly at the other end of the lead car!

Ghost train again today. Platform PID says train at one time, train never arrives. No loudspeaker information for passengers looking around for the missing train either...

This. Never ending multiple announcements and people talking over each other on a stupidly loud PA.
But when something goes wrong, total silence.

100% correct - he who shouts loudest..............!Rolling Eyes
At my local (ordinary two platform) suburban station they cannot even make the announcements to the correct platform. Morning peak disruptions are often broadcast to the down platform (to no one) - assuming that there are any broadcasts at all, of course.
I accept that Metro/PTV face major problems with the suburban network but at least they could/should start with some simple fixes like concurrent multiple announcements at ridiculous volumes and the passenger information systems on the Siemens and some Comeng trains.

Platform announcers that speak clearly would also be nice. Why the hell they employedpeople with heavy accents or those that try to make an announcement at the speed of light is beyond me.

In other news, signals are out at Patterson. Train is apparently broken too. Ffs every day its something...

The line was suspended.  There was a separate incident earlier in the afternoon which also caused delays on the line.

Makes interesting reading where the operator at least appears to accept some responsibility for something unlike Melbourne where no one seems responsible for anything.

I thought PTV was supposed to address that?

Ha!
No one in public transport management in Victoria accepts responsibility for anything.

Not a disruption per se, but I spotted what seemed like thousands of St Kevin's College students being herded by Metro staff through the middle of the day today. I was at Flinders Street and felt very sorry for anyone on those trains. I kid you not there must have been 2000 of them.

Comments to this article are interesting:

well someone should get there brains working and let the sleepin govt know that just changing the rail company is useless and they need to change the infrastructure like railway tracks, sleepers and signals etc. its hard to understand that why cant they just cut the trees falling over the rail lines. the signals and the lines get cut off by mere small storm of even 20km/h. such is the life and delicate system has been set up for melbourne where money is been poured out like water. is there any way to find out who has selected the govt officials for handling such things. they are growing old and should retire. can a younger chap jump is who is sensible and knows how to use his brain rather then putting in $$$$$. hope MTM survives. summers are not out yet. god bless all.

This one sums up the situation nicely!

NOT HAPPY JAN!!!
Late to work again today.

Changing provider has resulted in a bad start, add to that lower expectations, this is a fiasco, wait until Myki rolls out, that will be the cream on top.

Bring back Kennett.

Stony Point line is still out for the third day due to "track equipment faults" which I understand to mean the axle counters have gone phut again and spares are coming by snail-mail from Woop Woop.  The sprinters are berthed at Frankston having been trapped at Stony Point on Tuesday morning and run up overnight out of traffic hours.

Glenhuntly suffered a major tram derailment during this morning's peak when a tram came off across the rail square blocking all five tracks (two tram, three rail) and causing a moderate amount of surface damage.  Buses ran Caulfield - Moorabbin including some express trips but suffered delays as road traffic banked up around the incident.  Cleared at around midday.

Also add delays this morning at Blackburn (called from a person on the train) where overhead was unavailable with passengers being transferred to buses for the remaining journey into Melbourne.

Current was lost at Heatherdale last night from around 7pm until close of service.  Buses covered Blackburn - Ringwood but were few in number owing to the late hour.

I'm not aware of any problem there today having spent the entire morning on the platforms at Flinders Street.  Burnley, Northern and Clifton Hill Groups were running well.
