If you are referring to the trip from Castlemaine to Melbourne then the R Class will lead the D3.

Looks like a good trip.  Will get back late into Melbourne as a late afternoon departure from Castlemaine with some crossing vline services on the way home. I am in Melbourne this weekend so might take a picture or two.

Was a spectacular day, not a cloud in the skies, and not a breath of wind made for some great photographic opportunities:

R761 and K190 pause at Gisborne while waiting to be overtaken by a Vlocity to Bendigo

I also managed to catch up with R761 and D3 639 while resting at Kyneton waiting to cross both up and down Bendigo Vlocities.

Thanks Matthew.
An excellent production which highlights the foresight/good fortune/good luck (whatever) that have resulted in the ability for an interchange at Castlemaine.

Fantastic video there, I particularly liked the duelling whistles during the parallel departure.

In this current climate we are in, we see turntables being disconnected in some places (Ballarat, St Arnaud and Mildura for example), and completely ripped out in others (Numurkah, Deniliquin, Wodonga), as well as the sharp increase in high speed, and high frequency V/Line services over single line sections (eg, Ballarat line). All of this severely limits where mainline stem operations are able to travel. So with that in mind, it is simply marvelous that we have this ability to have direct access between the mainline and an independent tourist railway.

It really was a brilliant day, and shows what can be done when several organisations - in this case Steamrail Victoria , Victorian Goldfields Railway and V/Line - are willing to work together. Bravo to all involved.

It was almost the perfect Autumn day for photography on that line.  Some very crisp shots especially on Macedon Bank.

The Castlemaine shots are my favourites.
