Does anyone think Tim Poole has done a good job over at Asciano?
Is he an innovator and someone who presses for rail transport growth? PN's non coal business has been struggling for some time and now the coal business is about to come under pressure.
The Asciano business has been left really as a coal business with some add on intermodal. A lot of bulk has left the business and is now with other operators. Rail freight services in Victoria and Tasmania were effectively wiped out under Poole.
Has he done a good job? He has lifted the share price by riding the coal boom which is now looking very much over. Even the chinese have dramatically reduced the amount of thermal coal they are buying from Australia.
PN is in a precarious position if coal fails.
