Restoration ans conversions of steam locomotives in Australia

At the present time there are a number of steam locomotives under restoration in various states in this country, in Queensland there is an A10 under restoration at the Ipswich Rail Museum, a project that few outside those actually working on the project have any knowledge of.
At Woodford the ANGRMS group has the 0-6-0 Hudswell Clark undergoing an extensive restoration.
One wonders if after the most successful restoration of 6042 by the Canberra ARHS and its return to service if those same people who have exhibited high levels of skill and expertise could be recruited to participate in other projects such as the restoration and conversion to standard gauge of R766, the restoration of the other NSWGR giant 5711.
There are other locos under restoration in every state of the country, a listing of all of these locos would enable those with the motivation and resources to make contact with those undertaking these projects to the benefit of all.

The people responsible for returning 6029 to service (not 6042, it's still quietly rusting away in a paddock near Forbes) are busy keeping 6029 going. Steam locos need a LOT of ongoing maintenance, one of the reasons they were done away with. See http://blog.project6029.com/

5711 was rejected as a goer by the RTM, and the reasons for that are still valid.

S 549 Greenmount at ARHS WA is undergoing heavy maintenance having been out of steam since 2006.
W 945 at Hotham Valley is also being brought back to steamable condition.

Thought I'd add in some WA stuff as it's barely heard of over east.

A lot of what you would be looking for exists on the "Australian Steam" site.

http://www.australiansteam.com/

It's more of a "steam survivors" site, with information on locos - and loco remains - in all conditions, but it does contain information on locos being restored - including your A10 3 (http://www.australiansteam.com/A10%20%203.htm) - and is regularly updated when information is received.

If you have updated information on individual locos, this may be a good first stop, rather than attempting to duplicate info.

Hmm, it does seem as though some work is finally being done on A10 No 3. Last I knew it was basically a bucket of bolts. What a pity it won't be double heading with No 6 on Sunday...

G233 "Leschenault Lady" (built in 1898) located at the South West Rail and Heritage Centre in Boyanup (WA) currently has its boiler removed for repairs to be effected, with the plan being to have her back in steaming condition.

I wasn't aware that a10 #3 was being restored. Last time out at the museum in Feb I didn't notice it anywhere.

The priorities at that time seemed to be the dd17, and a hunslet.

I just looked at those photos again and realised they are quite old. #3 has been listed as "undergoing restoration" for as long as I can remember. Let's hope they finish it one day!

Interesting to see no mention that 520 is finally being restored to running condition, however this is due to a private effort.
