Hi All

Can anybody here provide any information and possibly a photo or two of the current status and condition of the Ex WAGR carriage "AF 13" possibly known as "VW 5112" which is currently shown on the Bellarine Peninsula Railway website to be located at the Lakers Siding storage shed.

This was a unique "One Off" Suburban car which I am doing a little research on. It was converted to a workmans van "VW" in 1967, later being written off in 1979 and then purchase and moving to BPR.
Little seems to be known on what conversions, if any, were done to it to achieve its format as a workmans van.

I would be very interested to see any older and current photos of it at BPR as well as get a bit of an update on its condition ie complete, retaining compartments or gutted internally etc

VW5112 was purchased privately in 1979 and located to the Bellarine Railway as overnight accommodation for its owners who were very active at the time.  The level of activity of those persons has been nil for over 25 years and the vehicle deteriorated. There was a fire 10 years or so ago which destroyed much of the body and what remained was cut down to floor level for safety. The frame is stored off track at Mannerim and the bogies are at Lakers Siding.

Ah Ok - thanks for the info ssj. A Sad Story Indeed!!! I guess that one has now definitely achieved W/Off status. Good to hear that it at least served a purpose on the railway for a while.

I would still be interested in any old photos if anyone here happens to have snapped it or even caught it in the background of a snap of something else.
