If they broken a major safety requirement should they be warned or sacked?

Sacking seems a little harsh?

Sacking seems harsh, but in "The Union State", we know who calls the shots.

Cautioned, warned, reprimanded, fined, counselled, disciplined, yes, but sacked for what is, apparently, in some cases at least, a first offence No!
Given that one of the gang was very seriously injured will be salutary lesson on its own.
The Victorian Rail Safety people are investigating this incident. Where is their report?
There has to be more to this than we know. Someone is maneuvering their position. Who, I don't know.
Offence is the best method of defence.

For those of us that have done the Metro track awareness course as part of their job, the do's and don'ts are pretty clear.

Without saying too much, PTV have issued a directive that prevents me from doing a certain thing as part of my job. Although I regard it as relatively minor what they don't want me to do, my company has made it clear that breaching this rule will result in an instant dismissal.

It may be harsh, but unless there are some very extraordinary circumstances, we know the rules and regulations and we shouldn't be surprised if we get sacked for breaking the rules set in place.

Personal responsibility seems to be a thing of the past.

Why the regular involvement was it that serious ?

If you guys had any clue of what happened, you wouldn't be asking for a reprimand or suspension...
Their stupidity resulted in a fellow work mate being hit by a train at Laverton because they didn't follow correct safety protocols..
The rules are there for a reason and sadly breaking them in this case has resulted in the near worst possible outcome of someone almost losing their life....

Wait a sec, I thought the injured worker incident was different to the incident these five were sacked for.
