How do you piss off an elitist train buff?

SUGGEST SOMETHING GETS PRESERVED.

Not everything must be preserved, but sometimes it is nice to dream *deep sigh*

After typing and rejecting several smart comments, I'll be sensible (sort of) and say that train buffs are already a pretty soft target.

Would you like to tell us what the item you think would be a good candidate for preservation? See how many more gunzels will be pissed off. Wink

Oh god, there's a trap I don't want to fall in to. :shock:Before anyone gets the wrong idea, I am proud of the work of preservation societies! This is just a joke targeted at those who get flustered when someone says "oh, the *insert preservation society* should/could take that" Hey, if they could preserve everything - then a 600 class steamer would have been amazing but, as the song goes - you can't always get what you want. You made a classic social media rookie mistake and brought up a subject that has been done to death on that particular group, is not seen as funny anymore and has in the past has prompted numerous flame wars.

Members of the group (not you specifically) were asked politely to desist from posting such comments.

You had to respond - and viewers might like to know that in your response you included the classic line "god it's like the Railpage forums' on here"

I see you have now left that group and brought your 'grievance' to RP - how ironic, given the comment above.

Sooooo...what had you wanted preserved, so we decide on the level of flame war required?

I wonder how often the ADF's M1A2 crews get to practice firing at moving targets?

I think you'll find a preserved 'NR locomotive and an Overland car' will amount to a full size model of the 2018 services.

A lot more frequently than you might think.... Very Happy

For non-gunzel Adelaide tram enthusiasts, it would involve suggesting not preserving anything in the silver livery except perhaps 381.  As was pointed out years ago 'How many preserved dropcentres do we have to have before we can have a silver one?'  Answer = 84.

Allambi is an Overland car and that is preserved at the NRM so that only leaves a NR locomotive which should not be that hard to get given there was 120 of them.

Or suggest buses are more flexible and faster than trains (if only in some instances). Cheaper to run, more profit making.

Don't like the idea of a Natrually Rubbish (NR) bring preserved in SA, a number of reasons:

1: They were not built for a company based in this state

2: They are heavily silenced (quiet engine noise)

3: None of the members are officially based in SA

IMO, a BL, CLF/CLP, DL, EL & AN should be preserved in SA over the boring, dominant 'silent deaths' that are called NR's.

Plus there is a couple of overland cars preserved in Vic
one privately on someones property , one was also damaged in one of the SRV fires at Newport

Since when has a "heavily silenced" engine had anything to do with whether a locomotive should be preserved or not?

Sounds like gunzel talk to me.

Well, that might be one of the drawbacks of snatching the 'National Railway Museum' title Smile.  But otherwise, I believe plenty of NRs have run through SA?  It's not like there are actually any 'SA only' freight operators anymore, nor has there been for some time.  With the exception of some rolling stock, I don't believe that there has been any captive 'SA only' trains either, also for some time.

It goes well with the SA National Football League.

It's also by no means "official," as it's just a trademark and not even the name of the business. The registered trademark is "National Railway Museum Port Adelaide" which would easily allow for other museums to register trademarks like, for example, "National Railway Museum Thirlmere" or "National Railway Museum Queensland."

If a few of the other groups did this cooperatively and created some sort of umbrella organisation, we could end up with a true national railway museum system having a number of branches around the country, and there wouldn't be a thing that Port Dock Station Railway Museum (SA) Inc could do about it except join up. Such a national group would have much more bargaining power when it comes to securing grants from governments and deals with the rail industry than the squabbly group of petty empire builders at Port Dock.

Some old rude grumps on here get p*ssed off when I mention my plans for regional passenger rail in SA (reopening closed stations and lines, restoring old rolling stock to run services, timetable ideas, etc).
  Aaron Minister for Railways

Location: University of Adelaide SA
Instead of preserving many NRs each in different livery I propose we keep one painted in collage of each livery worn by the class.

Whilst I agree with JAP on the National Museum thing, the N in SANFL is in reference to the 'national code' of football, as distinct from perhaps other codes like Yankee football and wankerball (sorry soccer).
