Seems the new name for the combined Pacific National + Asciano Services rail business which will be split out of Asciano itself and 'transferred' into ownership of the Canada Pension Fund when the Qube + Brookfield corporate business handover is complete will be something fairly simple and innocuous:

RailCo

There you go. Goss for the week.

Are you sure that is not just the name that the bankers/transaction managers used whilst going through the transaction process?

I imagine the meeting went something along these lines:

"The rest of you guys come up with a new name, something along the lines of I dunno, Railco, only more proactive!"

"So...RailCo ok with everyone?"

They wouldn't want to go calling it that in public.  Otherwise, it might raise some cash for a few lawyers and a steam railway in North Queensland.

I believe the organisation that bore the RAILCo name no longer exists, having split in two. The Ravenshoe based operation is now Ravenshoe Steam Railway (RAVRail), the Atherton based operation is now Atherton-Herberton Historic Railway Inc (Atherton Tableland Railway).

Don't be surprised if it's RailCo trading as Pacific National Rail Services or something like that.

Lots of people have never heard of Eureka Operations Pty Ltd but they buy their petrol there all the time.

The name RailCo is already registered with ASIC, so unless they have purchased the rights to the name...

Going off the thread's title, I thought this might be a competition to see who can think up imaginative new names for PN/Asciano management.

That's not being split out of Asciano. Patrick is being split out of Asciano, and Asciano Ltd (along with its remaining assets, i.e. Pacific National) is being taken over by the PN consortium. The Patrick and BAPS consortiums will take their bits with ACFS going to the current other JV partner.

CPFRA - Canada Pension Fund Railroad Australia ?

As the consortium has stated that PN's rail business will be 'transfered' to the Canada Pension Fund so it can be seen to be at 'arms length' from the rest of the Asciano business in order to allay fears of anti-competition, vested interests, building vertically-integrated monopolies, etc.
