It appears the ABC seems to get the Vic Police leaks about Pell, yet cannot mention the words Islam and terrorist in the same sentence after a series of bombings, stabbings or drive-throughs.

Cardinal Pell says it's all an ABC conspiracy - obviously he's been taking lessons from Andrew Bolt.
EDIT: Andrew Bolt says on his blog that it's definitely a conspiracy against Cardinal Pell on the part of the ABC. Personally I don't believe that Pell was ever a person who committed any crimes or we would have heard about it earlier - but I maintain that he was almost certainly guilty of helping to keep the crimes of others covered up, particularly while in Ballarat as the Bishops' administrative chief.
As an aside, I know that the Royal Commission took testimony regarding the Catholic Church, Jehovah's Witnesses and the Orthodox Jewish organisations - does anyone know if there were any other religious groups looked at? Interesting how the religions that were strongly hierarchical were the ones in which paedophilia appears to have flourished, perhaps because it was considered bad form for anyone to contact the police... just a theory.

The ABC is under more politically driven scrutiny than ever. Presumably its legal team would have made sure they were on sound ground before airing this. The Jewish organisation was a single school. I'm not sure that a strong hierarchy is a necessary condition for the occurrence of paedophilia.

Cardinal George Pell is calling for an investigation into whether some elements of Victoria Police and the ABC have conspired to pervert the course of justice.
On Wednesday night, the ABC's 7.30 program aired details of sexual abuse allegations against Cardinal Pell, who is Australia's most senior Catholic cleric.
Victoria Police has confirmed it has been investigating a number of complaints for more than a year, but has not sought to interview the Cardinal,who currently serves as the Vatican's treasurer, reporting directly to the Pope.
Cardinal Pell has vehemently denied the allegations, accusing the ABC of mounting a smear campaign against him and saying the broadcaster has "no licence to destroy the reputation of innocent people".
In a statement released after the 7:30 program went to air on Wednesday night, he said he bore no ill will and had no desire to cause any harm to those making the allegations against him, but said they were wrong.
Declaring that he would not participate in a trial by media and that he had "done nothing wrong", he said he was entitled to a "fair go". He said police had not asked to interview him, and it appeared "elements" of the Victoria Police had leaked information to the ABC.

This was then exacerbated by his subsequent efforts, as Archbishop of Melbourne, to deny them any form of justice wherever and however he could. He has a great set of double standards, and is a disgrace to his religion.

All religions are hierarchical but some are more hierarchical than others. The Jewish organisation was a single school. I'm not sure that a strong hierarchy is a necessary condition for the occurrence of paedophilia.I think the most important precondition to the thriving of a sexual abuse culture (in addition to the perpetrators having hierarchical power over their victims and the parents) is not reporting abuse to outsiders. Certainly Manny Waks testimony was that there's a strong emphasis on not reporting this kind of thing within the Orthodox community of East St. Kilda - if nobody ever talks about it then you'd never really know what the extent of the abuse would be. I'm really surprised that the Exclusive Brethren haven't been discussed yet; I know there's several campaigners who have been trying to get that very secretive cult looked at.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but this seems to be a perfect continuation of the George Pell story.
I shouldn't have to provide a link for the biggest story on all the news pages this morning; that Geroge Pell being charged with one count of rape and several charges of indecency/assault. There isn't much information other than that - and the other thing that I read is that we do have an extradition treaty with Italy but not with the Vatican.
