Planning on heading over on Saturday morning.  What in the way of vendors can we expect to find this year?

Any speculation on what the unannounced Auscision item may be?

Should be a great model show to see. This year taking $20 and that's it, no credit card. This is more do to my financial situation and not a  grand statment !

There will be many new samples from 'the big guys', however the cottage industry will also be offering some tempting goodies. Check out these HO scale kits that will be released at Caulfield by VR Casts & Lyndon's Trains.

I can imagine that Usain Bolt`s achievements in the Olympics may be overtaken by the 50m dash tomorrow morning in the "Auscision Dash" when people with large cameras and backpacks full of the days rations and camera gear start to attempt to run to the Auscision store to purchase from the "bargain bin" or the new release when the starters gun goes at 9 when the gates open.
Happened to arrive at opening time one year and was amazed by the frenzied display. A number of us would love to video the event!  Take care if you are competing!
Relax and enjoy the day at a great show.
(will be walking in very slowly around Sunday morning to avoid the crush!)

Yeah it's a mad house at first.

It's worth noting that Auscision often don't put everything in the bargain bin at the start.
I've gone in in the afternoon or Sunday and still picked up a bargain.   There's no need to be stupid about it.

Well it is $15 to get in this year.  Picked up NR18 in IP colours for $160.00.  Thought it was a good deal.

Had a look at the Auscision BGGX/BGGY Grain Hoppers and the bargain bin was full of XPT coaches in various forms.

Ended up picking up an Austrains V/Line Y (yeah, i'm late to the party, I know)

Had a chat at the On Track stand and got to see photos of the painted Sprinter samples which didn't make it in time for the show.  They look incredible and I can't wait to get mine in my hot little hands.

Seemed to be a better floorplan layout this year. The pinch points were a little more clear allowing an easier flow around the whole place.

That equates to a 50% price hike. The person at the ticket booth said that AMRA had made a loss at last year's Caulfield show. Yeah right!!!!

What I hear is AMRA put the prices up for the commercial stands which has not gone down well.  Hopefully they will sort.

I don't plan buying much so don't care about bargains, what about the modelling?

Naradhan (Stand 57) was a new one that I hadn't seen before. Quite enjoyed this little VR layout.

No......, You must be kidding!  Somebody still models???

I thought that exhibitions were all about getting the latest whizbang RTR thingamajiggy, or some sound equipped super detailed DCC cheap bargain.

Do you mean that exhibitions should be about showcasing model railway skills and techniques?

Well I never.............

Happy dreaming,

John

So...... How was the modelling then ?

For me it was very subjective. I turned to someone I know and got a different opinion, and thus make wonder what were people hopeing to see, and what they saw.......

Plonking or buying there was plenty, but no money, no buy, so this year nothing for me. I would have loved some plonking, some kits etc but still enjoyed the show. For I caught up and saw so many people making it a great time to see like minded people enjoying our hobby.

What is it with many of you guys?
Is it just about how much you can buy, or what bargains you can get? Why does it seem to be a priority to race in to a show at opening time to be among the first to this or that vendor?
What about the modelling, the great layouts, the skills displayed in the exhibits?

It's not just about how much stuff you can cart out of the show.
  duttonbay Minister for Railways

Sadly, in my opinion, the availability of all plastic stuff in boxes which people run for has diminished the quality of the modelling. I look to see the quality of the layouts, but most of them seem to be running RTR locos hauling long trains of RTR rollingstock, mostly unweathered. The influx of RTR models has been a godsend for many, but there seems to me to be a distinct inverse relationship between the availability of such and the quality of the modelling.
