That Maryborough Park branch is quite pretty. In the setting, the Mary Ann fits in perfectly.

Seeing that pair roll through would have been an interesting contrast.

2473+2472 dropped off new rail between Wynnum North and Wynnum early this morning.  Also noticed a speed board reminding to slow to 50 ( the official speed ) on the curve between the 2 stations.  Having travelled that section often, 50 is often the minimum speed with only 1 minute allowed on the UP line but 2 minutes allowed on the DOWN.

Does anyone know - or can anyone say - what exactly happened on Friday with all the cancellations? Normally there is some attempt to explain or something said if a signal is out or a track fault develops. This time, nothing.

1600hrs (approx) 2350 + 2302D down coal Yarrala
I noted that 2350 is wearing shiny new name plates, but could not read the name as I was driving. I think 2350 has also lost the 'D' (perhaps it never had one, but it is wearing the latest Aurizon livery, all the other 2300s without the 'D' are still wearing the old QR "Broncos" livery as far as I can tell).

I can't remember the number but an Aurizon 2470 was involved in a shunting accident several weeks ago in the Rockhampton yards. It received frame damage and has been stored in Rockhampton pending a decision on its future. I'm pretty sure this is the same loco sighted by you and at Toowoomba as it headed to Redbank. With several stored DFZs already in WA,  it's very unlikely Aurizon would be sending any more Clydes over there at the moment.

I have been advised elsewhere that this is the case. The person who told me thought the number was 2547 (which is impossible), so perhaps it was 2475?

Have noted an interesting by product of the new reduced timetable on the Cleveland line, particularly on a Friday when the axe is really wielded for the afternoon peak compared to Mon to Thu.

The Manly railway station carpark like most is too small, with much commuter parking on the streets.

The reduced timetable still sees a good service to Manly in the afternoon peak, but beyond that is not good in the early afternoon peak.  There are no trains beyond Manly on a Friday between 4.02 p.m and 4.39 p.m., whereas previously they were every 15 minutes.

There is also a reduction in the morning peak, but not as severe as the afternoon.

Now each Friday double the normal of cars are parked in the streets around Manly with Ernest, Curtis, Raeburn, Harman Streets most affected.  It is obvious on a Friday commuters from nearby Lota and beyond are now driving to Manly to catch trains.
