SCT Announces Commencement of Dedicated Melbourne to Brisbane Freight Services

  nswtrains Chief Commissioner

The flat wagon, MU plugged into the locomotive, a cable and pipe attached to the centre sill that head up to the tank. The 2 containers are both CRONOS, the 40' box is there for good looks and weight. It follows the head end around. Someone mentioned it on the last page.

EDIT- Only NRs go Melbourne to Brisbane on one tank of fuel.
I missed this image from three days ago. Had I noticed I would have realised no crew car!!
petan
The container is not there for good looks or weight but to give a safety space between the locos and the fuel tank. Common practice to provide a spacer wagon between locos and tank cars etc carrying dangerous goods. Just normal safety practice.

4BM9 at Mathews Lane, Picton on 26 January 2017.  No crew car.

4BM9 followed the Canberra Explorer.  Probably a bit closer than usual as being a public holiday there was no local endeavour close behind the Explorer.

Thanks 7334 for the pic.
Tank leading seems to blow the theory that the container is there, partly at least, to provide some form of isolation between the fuel and the locos.

Could it contain the pumps etc and perhaps safety gear required for such an external tank?

I'll throw my two cents in and speculate that it's there for weight balancing the wagon, though it could very well be housing some equipment, the doors seem to be facing away from the tank so they could potentially be accessed while on the wagon

I doubt the container contains the pumping equipment.
Pumping system is normally a skid mounted unit which sits between two tank containers.
Check out the two links below

http://www.selectron.ch/en/news/newsletter/themen/newsletter-3-2014/locomotive-inline-refuelling-system.php

When you look at the two links you easily see they are used by Australian railway companies
Tanks usually auto balance between the two.

nswtrains you'll notice there are no "buffer" wagons used.

The test run to Barnawartha on 18/1/17 had a 20' CRONOS container at the opposite end of the flat wagon with tank.

If so simply put the tank in the middle of the wagon?
There will be a reason...............SCT do not do things without a reason.

Northbound 4MB9 led by SCT 04 just passed southbound 7BM9 at the 489km post NSW north Coast line Kempsey Wauchope area time 9:45am QLD. Similar reports other days had this pass around northern Sydney suburbs near Hornsby so not the same passing region as other days thus different photo opportunities Smile I took a screen image of it showing on the Railpage train spotter as 4MB9 yet I assume it left Melbourne last night and 7BM9 left Bromelton last night so 4MB9 should have been 7MB9. Or, the train tracker software has a problem?

Thanks Petan for the attention to detail so often lacking here on RP. Smile
A lot of posters on here are so casual/careless when it comes to accuracy of detail. Sad

Only been on RP for 5 minutes and already criticising people's posts Shocked

I'm not seeing any live postings by you of these moves.

So what do you suggest we do?

I looked at tracker last night to see where the SCT MB train was at and I couldn't find it, so assumed they weren't running, But clearly it was running.  I see tracker has the BM and MB plotting the same path so it's a glitch.

Perhaps you could find the money to fund me to travel to locations where these trains run
Or is it that you are just infact yet another keyboard hero/ Bully who thinks that only he is allowed to criticize everyone else such as you do across these forums

Now I don't live next to a railway line, I don't have anyone paying me to go spotting, yet have I ever whinged about it?
Funny how the rest of us can get off our backsides when needed!

Oh and don't forget that some of your "keyboard heros/Bullies" take lots of those excellent train photos you love to look at and drool over, both here and in many of those railway magazines!

So yet another assumption personal attack to show you are also one of the Railpage managers then who i must appease to be a part of this Forum

So you assume my photos are not out there in the WWW then or have not been published even well you would be quite wrong

What will be the next personal attack on me by the I have been here for years i own Railpage crew i wonder

Probably saying i have never contributed to the Rail industry or any preservation societies i would say although at least two of you attack types Have never been in the Industry

I appologise for taking this thread off track to defend myself from some people who should be more nice to other members However

One i live over 2 hours from the nearest Rail line and do not drive

Two i am On Call for my work

Three I am on call for my local RFS brigade Rural Fire Service that being and as my region is in a very hot and dry condition right now i even have my PPE and fire boots sitting next to my front door incase We get a callout

Does That meet with all your approval

Sorry People but that got on my nerves so Back to talking of the SCT services we now go.

Picked up from outfront of my house by who ever is nearest as from my place to the RFS shed is about 2.5km or if they are heading out past me i duck over the road and get picked up by the truck

Seems to work so far anyway
Hoping for no fires though
